Foster-Mil- burn Co., Props., Buffalo, N. Y. flighted her audience by - her An Eftective Laxative for Growing Children Dr. Caldwell’s Syrup Pepsin Highly Recommended as a Family Remedy. In children the slightest irregularity of the bowels has a tendency to dis- turb: the entire digestive system, and uniess promptly remedied invites seri- ous iliness. The experienced mother knows that by training her children to regularity in this respect, and when occasion arises administering a mild laxative, she will have little need for the doctor’s services. . Mrs. Leo Weigand, 3251 Central Ave,, N. 8, Pittsburg, Pa., whose two boys, Frank and Joseph, are shown in the {llustration, writes that she has found Dr. Caldwell’'s Syrup Pepsin a moikt effective laxative, mot only for the children but also for herself, and 'that she will always keep it in the hotise to use when needed. Dr. Cald- well's Syrup Pepsin is a combination of simple laxative herbs with pepsin that aéts easlly and naturally, with- out griping or other pain or discom- fort. It is pleasant to the taste so that children like it, and is equally effec- tive on the strongest constitution, LYCEUM OFFERING . BASED ON PATHOS Sweet Story Told in Vehicle of Walter Naylor Players As “Nell” in the four act play “Dust of the Earth” at the Lyceum this week, Miss Dorothy Antel again scores a personal triumph with the theatergoers of the city. Miss Antel impersonated the character of a motherless child, a niece of David Moore, played by Harry Hamilton, whase sister left home a number of years before and returned with a child who was left in charge of David. After her death David takes charge of the child but his wife, Susan, inter- preted by Miss Margie Dow, and their daughter, Elizabeth, portrayed by Miss Virginia Perry, who as usual, de- clever work, have not much faith in the ‘walf and abuse and {1l treat her. about the same tlms as David's sister, made a decided impression on his initial bow to a New Britain audi- ence. It is supposed that he has lost his life somewhere In Burope. Philip Quin, as Old Mose, appears Lo his usual good ' advantage. David's wife and daughter, Elizabeth, try to get rid of Nell by placing & ring in the pocket of her apron when she goes ta walk with John' Ryder, taken by Smythe Wallace, a distant relative of Osborn, who lived at the old Osborn homestead called the Maples. Upon being accused of the theft of the ring she denies that she was a party to it .and her story is believed \by David Moare, her uncle, ¢ After many trials she decided that she can stand the life no longer and leaves the home on Christmas in the midst of a heavy snow storm, dressed ip her mother's wedding gown. After wandering about in the storm she heads for the cabin of Mose and Wan- dering Tom and upon her appearance Tam is brought back to his sane self again. Then the whole story of the marripge of Nell’s mother to Wander- ing Tom is told and how, while upon a trip abroad he falls from a -moun- tain and loses his memory. and not until he sees the old plece of wedding finery does he realizse who he is. .1t 1s then that those who have been so mean to Nell have to accept her as an equal' and poor little Nell at last comes into her own, “LONDON BELLES” AT THE GRAND THEATER There is something which smacks| cf the Winter. Garden of little old New York in the work of Rose Sy- dell, her “London belles” and Johnie ‘Weber at the Grand theater this week. Nothing but the runways are needed to make local burlesque lovers feel ke the happy “proévincials” who go dcwn to the metropolis to see a real show. For there is snap and dash in Rose Sydell’s troupe. When the au- dience least expects it the whole car- avan of girls are on the floor of the house, dancing through the aisles and patting the-bald spots. But that is what Hartford burlesque lovers like apparently. The drive on the audience won a whirlwind of applause yester- d A Trip from Washington,” is filled with good work. There is enough variety to please everybody. Music lovers will be satisfled with “The Gayety Trio” and those of an esthetic nature will be equally pleased with the “thirty beautiful living models.” There is plenty of originality in this show and there isn’'t a dull moment from the time the asbestos goes up until it comes down again at the end of the performance. Kate Pullman, who is featured in the specialties, is the “life of the party.” Johnie Weber, or course, is as popular as ever and his return to Hartford finds him as much a laughmaker as he was back in the days of Tony Pastor. lm Dr. Caldwell’s Syrup Pepsin can be obtained at any drug store for fifty cents, and should have a place in every home. It will save many times its cost in lessened- doctor bills and maintain the health.of the entire family. To avoid imitations'and ineffective sti- tutes be sure to get Dr. Caldwell's Sy- rup Pepsin. See that a facsimile of Dr. Caldwell's signature and his portrait appear on the yellow carton in which the bottle is packed. A trial bottle, free of charge, can be obtained by writing to Dr. W.' B. Caldwell, 455 Washing- ton St.. Monticello, Illinois. MARIE DORO A HIT IN “OLIVER TWIST” / Picturizing the famous drama, “Oli- ver Twist,” the Paramount company introduces at Keeney's tonight and fo- morrow Marie Doro in the rols in which she achieved her greatest suc- cess. In selecting Miss Doro for the title role the Paramount people made an excellent move and the part is ad- mirably played. A capable company supports her. The picture won the approval of the ‘“first nighters” and it is expected to draw heavily tonight and tomorrow. There will be an epi- sode in ““The Purple Mask” serial to- night. Tomorrow and Thursday the second chapter in the mew serial, “The Mystery of the Double ross,” is to be on the program. The feature of the last three days of the week will be Lou-Tellenger in “The Victoria Cross.” The regular Universal releases will be shown in addition and there will be a good vaudeville 'bill daily. - PRIVATE SIDE TALKS BY RUTH CAMERON The Lady’s Selfishness “It was too bad you got Mr. S. started about mountain climbing,” didn’t know that's his hobby. No, one gets a word in' edgewise the rest of the evening if someone gives him a chance to talk about the mountains he climbed in his youth.” “Yes,” said the Lady-who-always- knows-somehow, placidly, *“I know. I've heard him talk about them be- fore.” “You've heard it all before and you encouraged him to do it again,” echoed the Authorman increduously. “You can’'t mean it, Lady.” He Grew Ten Years Younger in Ten nutes. The Lady laughed. “But I do,” she spid. “And it was hard on you peo- ple wasn't it? But you see, he look- ed so sad and old when you people were talking about the good times you've been having. And I like him and I know how little pleasure he has and I wanted to do something for him. So I gave him a chance to talk, on purpose. And didn’t you see how he changed? Why he grew ten years younger in ten minutes. And when we left, his eyes were positive- 1y shining. I'm sorry for you people, but to tell the honest truth I'd do it again. You have so much more than he. - Does that make you awfully angry with me?” - “Angry?” said the Authorman, “Hardly! Perhaps I'll even be decent enough to help you next time.” “Thank you,” said the Lady. A Way of Giving Open to All of Us. “You do that sort of thing all the time, don't you?” said the Authorman reflectively. “Indeed I don’t,” said the lady, “I wish you wouldn’t say such things. I always mean to do it more and then I'm careless. It really is a way of giving that we don’t think enough about, People love to talk about their adventures and their hob- bies, and you can give them such a lot of pleasure by bringing up the subjects and taking and interest in them™ - “Yes,” said the Authorman, “Come to think of it, I don’t believe Mr. 8 A ¥ would have enjoyed an evening at the theater more.” v Rides On Hobbies Sometimes Give As Much Pleasure As Auto Rides. “That's funny you should have said that,” sald the Lady, “for, you know, last week I was wishing we could take Mr. and Mrs. 8. to the :heuter and we couldn’t quite aflord € “Bless your heart,” said the Auth- orman, “Don’t you ever think-of your- self?” “All the time,” saild the Lady. “'l' terribly selfish.
