American railway association officials declared the dan- ger of inadequate supply of living ne- cessarles, because of transportation problems, had.lessened greatly with- in the last two weeks and the possi- bility of a general shortage through- out the east was slight. The dearth of cars is less than a year ago, they said. Feb. 22.—Heads of city departments asserted today that a superficlal examination of municipal statistics failed to show results that might be attributed to lack of suf- ficient nourishment caused by the high price of food. New York, Feb. 22.—A wooden tank containing 25,000 gallons for emergency use in connection with the Brooklyn water system collapsed late last night before the eyes of a squad of militiamen detailed to guard it and six other tanks at Springfield, Long Island. Investigation failed to show that any one had damaged the tank and the officers in command expressed the opinion that it had burst by the weight of water.
