A bulletin, issued by the committee, explains the aims of the club, which are certain to meet with wide approv- al. today the following appeal sued: 3 “The Patriotic Holiday Observance committee, appointed by the executive board of the New Britain Rifle club of the National Rifle association, is sending invitations to the, clergy, all fraternal organizations, the mayor. the senator and representatives, Man- ufacturers’ association, Chamber of Commerce, superintendent of schools and principals of the High and Nor- mal schools, to meet and discuss for the proper observance of all patriot- ic holidays. “The motives of the committee are as follows: “(a) To instill, foster and intensify patriotism. “(b) To create a greater unity of people on the platform of patriotism, thereby breaking down the present tendency towards sect and race sep- aration, both of which are a direct and dangerous menace to our country's welfare. £ “(e) To celebrate properly all patri- otic holidays; all races and sects to join hands under one head. “(d) To unite, through our example, the growing generation so the boys and girls of today will be unselfish, patriotic men and women of tomor- row. “To create a more united, more un- selfish, more patriotic and more char- itable people is a work that all broad- minded men endorse as necessary to our country's welfare, a work to which They will lend their hands and hearts. The time is ripe for such a move- ment and those who have the interests of their land at heart will co-operate. “The work is an extensive one and skeptics may consider it too large for accomplishment. But the committee, realizing fully the magnitude of the task, is confident of succ and ap- peals for moral and active support to men of broad minds. This is a goal for real men, not for invertebrates. Those who can see farther than from year to year, who wish to ensure the nation against selfishness and petty terests, should, by their example, in- spire the young to deeds and acts of patrigtism. “This is planting time. was ls- The seed harvest in years to come. This is the opportunity to sow the crop fo virile, patriotic manhood and womanhood that must be produced if America is to maintain its place among the nations of the earth. “To those whose first breath was of native air, we urge immediate action to uphold the traditions of their soil. To those whose birth was un- der foreign flags, who have come to our shores to shaye our justice, free- dom and bounty, we extend an invi- tation to join us. This is merely a be- ginning. The movement, because of its nature, must spread. It will de- stroy bigotry, race suspicion and all the evils which are threatening the social and national structure of the land we all love.
