Denver, Jan, 1.—Every game in the realm of sport is directly or indirectly involved in the decision the United States Golf association makes at its annual meeting in New York mnext week on the question of “What con- stitutes a amateur?” according to Frank L. Woodward, president of the association, who left here yesterday for the annual gathering. “It is either sport for sport’'s sake or sport for gain,” said Mr. Wood- ward. “It is for the delegates to decide whether the game of golf shall be maintained upon the principles of clean, straightforward, decent sports- i manship or whether players shall be permitted to trade upon it for person- al profit. “The one is an appeal to manhood and the best elements in human na- ture.
