This means that Detective COLUMBIA GRAFONOLAS - RECORDS Preparedness IS the Order of the Day FORTIFY YOUR HOME AGAINST DULL DAYS AND EVENINGS WITH A Sergeant Samuel Bamforth must go | onto night work for nine months of | the year as he takes the places of Street Sergeants Kelly and Hart and the place of Desk Sergeant Herting, | while they in turn take his job and each other's. This will go into effect | on January 1. | Magnell Makes Statement. ‘ Referring to Monday night's meet- | ing of the pension board at which | time T. H. Parker is alleged to have accused Clerk A. E. Magnell of the | safety board of refusing to show him | certain reports, Mr. Magnell had the | following to say to the commiissioners: | “Mr. Parker this morning remind- | ed me of the fact that he asked me for a report of the firemen’s pension association from the time of its or- | ganization in 1907 to the present date. He does not say that he made re- | peated efforts to get the report nor does he say that I refused to give it | to him. An unfair advantage was taken of me last evening as I was absent when the statements were made. In fairness to myself, if Mr. | Parker had wanted a report for sev- | en or eight years he should have come | to my office and asked for it, rather | than asking me for it on the street | and expecting me to flash it on him.” | Seven Want Pension. } Three callmen in the fire depart- | ment applied in writing for pensions. | They are Patrick Egan, W. F. For- | sythe and F. W. Humphrey. BEgan ' and Forsythe have served twenty-five | years each and Humphrey has served thirty years. James Tormay, thirt seven years in the department, Wi liam Frey and George Cadwell, the | last two having served twenty-four | and thirty-five years respectively, also say they wish to be retired, although | Frey and Cadwell would consider be- ing appointed to the reserve force. Harry Wetmore, with twenty-eight | years of service likewise wishes to be | pensioned. These men will be given hearings at the next meeting. Regarding Police Pay. A recommendation from Chief Rawlings that theater policemen be | paid $2 up to 11:15 p. m. and receive fifty cents extra for overtime, was | adopted. The question of police pay | for out of town duty is left entirely with the officers themselves. | Bachman a Regular. The vacancy in the police depart- ment was filled by the appointment of Supernumerary Officer Tony Bachman who was park policeman all summer. He was elected on the first ballot, re- ceiving the vote of all commissioners. Butler New Captain. The appointment of a captain at No. 3 Engine house was next taken up,\ the candidates being William Watts, Thomas Higgins and Michael Butler. Voting was by ballots and Mr. But- ler was elected with two votes out of a possible three. Sergeants to Change Jobs. Mr. Moran asked how often the palice beats are changed. He was in- formed that the patrolmen’s beats are changed every six months and the street sergeants change beats each month. He then moved that the four sergeants be changed every three months, so that each year all the sergeants get a trial at each other’s job. ~ This was passed and will take effect on January 1. May Change Firemen Too. Mr. Steele moved that the daily re- | ports of Sergeant Bamforth and De-| tective A. J. Richardson be brought‘ before the next meeting. He finally decided to investigate these Teports at the police station. Mr. Steele also moved that/on January 1 a new rule | be put into effect that will make it| necessary for the firemen to be changed to a .different house every three months. Chairman Babcock | opposed the motion and said he would rather leave the matter of changes to the chief., It was finally decided to call Chief Dame into conference be- fore taking any action. Other Matters Taken Up. The request of the hospital authori- ties that the police patrol, used as an ambulance, be re-lettered to avoid the use of “police” on the vehicle, will be given due consideration. The petition of the fifth warders to have Skritulsky’s hall abolished as undesirable was given consideration and the police chief will be instructed to have the place ‘properly policed and law and order enforced. Cor- poration Counsel J. E. Cooper, in reference to the above, expressed a written opinion that the board has no right to order the place closed. The safety board received an in- vitation from the Men’s Brotherhood 22 per at the church on No¢vember 22, when Raymeand Fostick of New York, criminologist, who has studied in urope for two years on how to pre- vent crimes, will speak. It was voted to buy two smoke masks for use in the fire department. No action was taken regarding the purchase of a new pulmotor, but an extra oxygen tank for the present ap- us was ordered. The chairman was instructed to see if he can find a good man to be as-' sistant city electrician and report at the next meeting. It was suggested that it may be necessary to appoint such a man a regular fireman angd then have him detalled as an elec- | i Columbia Grafonola Model 75 New Model Columbia Grafonola $1.00 a Week Puts one in your home.
