Tourette Guests at Miscellaneous Shower in Honor of Miss Turnbull Informed of Her Marriage Hour Before. During what was thought to be but a miscellaneous shower given in honor of Miss Jennie Turnbull of Milford at the home of Mr. and Mrs John A. Reeve of 443 West Main street Satur- day evening it was unexpectedly an- nounced that Miss Turnbull and Fred- erick Parker had been married an hour before, whereupon the shower took the form of a wedding reception. The wedding announcement came as a complete surprise to all the friends of the couple, as formal announce- ments haq already been mailed setting the date of the wedding a week in advance. Mr. Parker, whose home is in Bridgeport, motored to this city late Saturday afternoon and with Miss Turnbull went to the home of Rev. Dr. Earle B. Cross on High street where they were married at 6:30 o’clock. Mr. and Mrs. Parker will spend their honeymoon touring through the White Mountains. Miss Turnbull is a granddaughter of Andrew Turnbull of this city. A meeting of the Boosters’ club— that’s what it might be called—was held at White's grill on Main street Saturday evening after the big parade in which Companies E and I of this city were welcomed back to home soil. Previous to the meeting the club had no name but Boosters’ club is an ap- propriate title. During the evening speeches were made in which genuine enthusiasm for the welfare of the New Britain was shown. The guests of the evening were Captain E. Raymond Low of Company E, Captain Henry F. Lad- bury of Company I and Mayor Joseph P. Dutton of Bristol. The speeches were of a happy nature and showed that when men get together and forget politics and all other personal consid- erations genuine good can be accom- plished. ‘‘New Britain first and al- ways’” was the slogan and the idea was well carried out Ex-Senator George M. Landers was toastmaster of the occasion, which was wholely informal, and speeches were made by Mayor George F. Quigley, Major Frank H. Johnston, former president of the Connecticut Chamber of Commerce; Johnstone Vance and John J. Daly, managing editor and editor respectivelyy of the New Britain Herald; Thomas W. O'Connor, Cap- tains Low and Ladbury, Sergeant Ed- ward F. Prior, Safety Commissioner Howard M. Steele, Edward F. Hall, candidate for representative on the re- publican ticket Chairman H. S. Tal- Jard of the health commission and Mayor Dutton. Others present were City Engineer William H. Hall and several Bristol citizens The fire department responded to two still alarms yesterday. A reception will follow, l TO IMPROVE SERVICE, Railroad Company Promises Relicf From Crowded Conditions on Trains In response to a number of com- plaints received by the Chamher of Commerce relative to the overcrowd- ed condition of some of the trains | running between this city and Hart- ford, the matter has been taken up with railroad officials, who have promised to make several changes that will be beneficial to the traveling public. Severa] months ago company altered the railroad its schedule which took away several trains.
