The municipal relief committee has decided, following a vote of the com- mon council, to pay Deputy City Clerk Harry A. Hargreaves, who is now In | the government service, the difference between his pay as a soldier and the salary he receives as a city official. Cook Dolan of Company E, who was recently appointed to the regular po- lice force, will be accorded similar treatment, but in the case of Comp- troller H. L. Cur who is paymaste: of the First Regiment, nothing will be done as his salary as regimental paymaster is greater than that paid by the city for the office of comp- troller. Last evening the municipal relief committee met at the mavor’s office decided to use the office as re- lief headquarters, where applicants for assistance may report their needs. The office has as a matter of fact been used for this purpose since the council authorized the committee last week. One applicant for relief stated that her husband was a member of Company G of Manchester, but the couple have been living in this city for several months.
