Prosecutor George W. Klett in- formed Judge John H. Kirkham that for the past six weeks the police hav been receiving complaints from fathers and brothers of certain youns men that a gambling joint was being run at the Hotel De Villa. The place was raided Sunday morning and although Bridgett was caught, his partner in the business was not apprehended. The prosecutor recommended a ' fine of $5 and costs for each of the fre- quenters, but said he would not rec- ommend any particular fine for Brid- gett as this was not his first offense. Bridgett has been arrested before for running a gambling joint, and the last time was fined $50 and costs. There- fore the prosecutor thought he should be fined more heavily than that. He referred to the proprietors of the joint as sharpers Lawyer W. F. Mangan, representing Bridgett, denied that there was any evidence of sharpers, and the ecutor changed his statement, that the young gamblers were by those who were ‘“shrewde they. Although Lawyer thought a fine of $50 and 5 enough for Bridgett, the judge posed a fine of $60 and costs.
