LEPPELIN PROBABLY LOST IN NORTH SEA German Airship Possibly Hit by Fire of Dutch Guns London, Feb. 4—A Zeppelin air- ship, and probably all her,crew, has been lost in the North Sea and it 1s possible that she met her fate through the fire of Dutch anti-aircraft guns. An English trawler reaching Grims- by reports having seen in the North Sea, Zeppelin 1-19, partly submerged and with between seventeen and twenty men clinging to her gas on- velope. Aid was refused the Ger- mans because they outnumbered the crew of the trawler. Fifty. Shots Fired. Fifty shots, some of which are be- lieved to have hit her, were fired at a Zeppelin Wednesday morning as it flew low in a fog over the island of Ameland, off the coast of Holland. This airship, according to an Am- sterdam dispatch, finally disappeared northward, a course which would have taken her out into the North Sea. Thirteen men of the crew of the collier Franz Fischer were drowned when the collier was sent to the bot- tom in two minutes by a bombh dropped by one of the Zeppelins re- turning from the raid on England. Only three men of the Fischer were saved. Zeppelin Sinking. Grimsby, Feb. 4—sSkipper Willlam Martin, of the trawler King Stephen, who has arrived, here, reports that early Wednesday morning in the North Sea he saw the Zeppelin L-19 with her boats and a portions of hex envelope submerged. He noticed from seventeen to twenty members of her crew clinging to the envelope They asked to be taken off, but as the men on the Zeppelin outnumbered the trawler's crew, the skipper declined to accede to the request. Instead, he came straight into Grimsby and re- ported the matter to the admiralty authorities. The captain of a French vessel ar- riving at Hull reports having seen the wreck of a Zeppelin in the North Sea yestdrday morning. 4 A Reuter dispatch from Amster- dam vyesterday reported that the coast guard on the Dutch Island of Ameland in the North Sea sighted a Zeppelin which was flying low, prob- ably having lost her bearings in the fog.
