NEW, BRITAIN DAILY HERALD, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 1916. Goethals and Edwards THURSDAY MORNING ; FEBRUARY 3rd As might be expect- ed, a great many short lengths of all kinds of goods have accumulat- ed during the past ten days. These will be marked at prices cal- culated to make an im- mediate clearance. PULLAR & NIV a® Start Tomorrow and Keep It Up Every Morning Get In the habit of drinking a glass of hot water before breakfast. — We're not here long, so let's make our stay agreeable. Let us live well, cat well, digest well, work well, sleep well and look well. What a glorious condition to attain, and yet, how very easy it is if one will only adopt the morning inside bath. Folks who are accustomed to feel dull and heavy when they arise, split- ting headache, stuffy from a cold, foul tongue, nasty breath, acid stomach, vean, instead, feel as fresh as a daisy by opening the sluices of the system each morning and flushing out the whole of the internal poisonous stag- nant matter. Everyone, whether ailing, sick or well, should, each morning, before breakfast, drink a glass of real hot water with a teaspoonful of limestone phosphate in it to wash from the stomach, liver and bowels the previ- “pus day's indigestible waste, sour bile and polsonous toxins; thus cleansing, yweetening and purifying the entire slimentary canal before putting more food into the stomach. The action of hot water and limestone phosphate on an empty stomach is wonderfully in- 2 vigorating. It cleans out all the sour termentations, gases, waste = and acidity and gives one a splendid ap- petite for breakfast: While you are enjoying vour breakfast the water and phosphate is quietly extracting a large volume of water from the blood and getting ready for a thorough flushing of all the inside srgans. The millions of people who are bothered with constipaticn, bilious pells, stomach trouble: others who have sallow skins, blood disorders and Hckly complexions are urged to get a quarter pound of limestone phosphate 'rom the drug store. This will cost rery little, but is sufficient to make inyone a pronounced crank on the subject of inside-bathing before breakfast. bad complexion If you, too, are embarrassed by a pimply, blotchy, unsightly skin Resino will probably clear it. Just try Resinol Soap and Resinol Oint- ment regularly for a week and see if they do not make a blessed dif- ference in your complexion. Sold by all druggists. Prescribed by doc- tors for 20 years for most skin troubles. Use Resinol Soap for your shampoo, too. Smiles Indicate Peace e GENERAL . GOETHALS ~ © GENERAL EDWARDS ; Arriving in New York from the canal zone, Major General Goethals, governor of the zone, and Brigadier General Clarence R. Edwards, com- manding the troops ‘there, were photographed together. Their smiles reemed to indicate that all was peace hetween them, despite the reports of serious differences of an official nature between the two officers. The 1ales were denied by both officers. It hod been asserted that Governor Goethals has objected to remarks of Genera]l Edwards regarding the zone ¢Jministration, especially with refer- ence to the methods and costs of censtruction of military buildings urder canal jurisdiction and ‘that Governor Goethals resents criticisms alleged to have been made by Gen- cral Edwards regarding the form of | th¢ canal government. General Ed- | wards believes, it is said, that lhe1 military and civil authority should be | vested in one person, instead of being | i scparated, as at present. THRIFT BASIS OF ALL PROSPERITY Comes Tomorrow Much is now heing said on the sub- ject, of preparedness—preparedness for war, with all of its horrors, dis- tress and human loss. A measure of ness, content, old age and the future if not more, important. If we are impressed with the idea of prepared- ness for a possible exigency, we will be all the more impressed with the necessity of making provision for those things which fall to the lot of all individuals who continue to live. Now is the opportune time for every individual to enlist in the move- ment for a thriftier nation. Our country has entered upon an era of prosperity which promises to surpass any we have hitherto enjoyed, and while good times in themselves do not of necessity mean that thrift will be practiced to a larger extent, yet it is at such times that individuals are better able to give time and attention to the devising of ways and means for their continuance. It is generally recognized that * the fundamental hasis of all national pros- perity is a bountiful crop production. The crops of the past year have brok- en all previous records, commanding good prices, with a big foreign mar- ket open and ready to receive all those not needed for home consump- tion. Large earnings do not necessarily of themselves represent thrift. It is a fact borne out by reliable statistics that while our country is the wealth- jest country in the world, we have a ings accounts than any other of the foremost nations. It is also often il- lustrated in our everyday associations that many citizens with incomes five are far less constructive and beneficial | to the up-building of the community | than their fellow-citizens of more modest earning capacities. The plan of designating February 3 as Thrift Day has as its foundation the idea of turning the constructive thought of every individual, irrespec- tive of his particular vocation or earn- ing capacity, in our nation of one hundred million people toward the elimination of waste in its every form. Nor is it the idea that only on that particular day should attention be di- rected toward conservation, but rather that It should bring about a prevail- ing tendency and ability to see with a clearer vision methods for greater | thrift on every day in the year and | mark an actual start in observing the acknowledged ways and means to this end, APPROVE BRANDEIS. democrats gathered in state confer- | ence here yesterday named five dele- gates-at-large to the national conven- tion in St. Louis and ratified the list of district delegates chosen previous- ly in caucus. McCALL NOT IN PRESIDENTIAL RACE Bay State Executive Wires Minnesota Secretary of State To Remove His Name From Primary Ballot Boston, Feb. 2.—Gov. Samuel W. McCall yesterday joined the company of those who are declining to be early candidates for the presidency when he sent the following telegram to Julius Schmall, secretary of state in Minnesota: “I appreciate the honor of being proposed as a candidate in the Minne- sota presidential primaries but T respectfully request that my name be not printed on the primary ballot, Samuel W. McCall.” The governor said it merely was his answer to the rumors that have been in circulation recently that he was going to allow his name to be used in the primaries in the northern state. The governor had to submit to a broadside of questions after hé had sent the telegram which finally led up to this “Governor are not you afraid of this removing you from being a presidential possibility.” Mr. McCall leaned back, said he was crossing “only one bridge at a time” and be- came uncommunicative. “The Busy Little Store” Strictly Fresh CONNECTICUT EGGS 33ce Right from the nest, not an egg in the lot a week old.
