Wrong because those two men who formed the orchestra be- longed to the union, and they proved that in union there is strength. Chorus and principals, too, were united and they performed in wonderful fashion, which all goes to show that where there is a will there is always a way. 1t was worth going a long, long way from home on a cold night to hear Miss Cecelia Hoffman sing “Loves Own Kiss.” This charming little suffering gallery in lady has been showered with a super- | abundance of talent, winsome ways, coquetishness, everything to capti- vate an audience. Washington, Bernstorfr, Nov. 3. Von the Germun ambassador, and Secretary Lansing held their first conversation yesterda) ~Count since the set- tlement of the Arabic case, and took under consideration growing out of the sinking Lusitania last May with the 100 American the questions of the loss of more than lives. The plan of reaching an agreement without the exchange of formal notes 80 well in the handling of the Arabic case that it is now to be followed in endeavoring to the Lusitania problem. Today's conversation was only an approach to the various issues involved in the controversy, and it was indicated that it would take some time to reach a common ground or basis for settlement. There is no disposition at the state department to hasten a settlement, hut the desire is to give every opportunity for a full and frank exchange of views. Originally the American government demanded disavowal of the act, rep- aration and assurances that the inci- dent would not be repeated. The last is considered to have been disposed of through the published instructions to German submarine commanders not to torpedo ships without warning, as embodied in the settlement of the Arabic case. The question of dis- avowal is best with many complexi- ties, since the commander acted under instructions existing at the time. That Germany will give the rep- aration deisred in the form of indem- nity iIs considered not unlikely in view of the fact that virtually the principle was involved in the c the Arabic, which was torpedoed with- out warning, causing the loss of two American live Although today was what probably will be s of parleys on the zubject, > was a noticeable feeling of confidence that an agreement ultimately would be solve reached and that there would be el new crisis over the situation. ! e e e e e RIGHTER CHILDREN Childrenare probably brighterto-day than a generation ago—but are they stronger? That’s a grave question. | So many pinched faces, dulled eyes but by informal conversations worked | and languid feelings make us wonder if they will ever grow into robust, healthy men and women. o If your children catch colds easily, ! are tired when rising, lack healthy color, or find studies difficult, give them Scott’s Emulsion for one month to enrich their blood and restore the body-forces to healthy action.
