New Haven Hunter Captures Bird at Foxon. New Haven, Oct. 20.—Nathan A. Small, of 1459 Quinnipiac avenue, yes- terday shot a splendid specimen of the American gold-head eagle, while hunting just off Smith avenue in Foxon, a distance of about three miles from the city hall. Mr. Small saw the huge bird standing upon the stump of a tree and first thought it a turkey, but stealing up closer discov- ered his mistake. The eagle, he said, stood almost as straight as an arrow and with a majesty that was impres- sive, and its silver crown shone white | in the sun. Upon being measured it was found to have a wing-spread of just six feet and one-half, and strange to say weighed just six and one-half pounds The Will To Live. (Providence Journal.) ‘William Wallace Spence, a leading financier of Baltimore, celebrated in that city yesterday the one hundredth anniversary of his birth. For years, a Baltimore dispatch says, Mr. Spence has declared his determination to live to be a hundred, and ‘“the fact that he has done so is attributed largely to his iron will.” All sorts of reasons are given by all sorts of persons for living to great ages. Some of them put the emphasis on the absence of worry. Others at- tribute to their longevity to abstinence from intoxicants and tobacco. Others still proudly proclaim the fact they have used alcohol and tobacco all their lives. A frequent explanation is that the aged man or woman comes of a long-lived family. But Mr. Spence has lived, it appears, because he had the will to live. Herein is a suggestion for the rest of us, “They are able be- cause they seem to be able,” says the old Latin poet. May Mr. Spence have the will to live to be at least a hun- dred and ten! | LOST—Garnet B ENNY A CASH IN ADVANCE. ~MINIMUM CHARGE 10¢ ONE CENT A WORD EACH INSERTION. LOST.
