Bridgeport, Sept. 24*—A campalgn to improve conditions for workers In the metal polishing trades, is to be inaugurated throughout New England it was announced yesterday, following a meeting here of the general evecu- tive board of the Metal FPolishers, Buffers and Platers, Brass and Silver Union of North America. The campaign as outlined by the union officlals will seek to discour- age further employment of women in the metal polishing trades, the im- provement of sanitary conditions in the shops and to bring about an eight ‘hour day in those fagtories which are now working a longer daily schedule. It was pointed out that up to five years ago the mortality among the workers in the metal polishing trades | had been very heavy but that by im- proving conditions during the past five years there had been a materlal percentage: of decrease leaving, ac- cording to Vice President J. J. Flynn of the union, a percentage of abont 62.5 as compared with the whole number engaged in those trades. This percentage, it is hoped to lower con- siderably by atill further improve- ment in conditicns. The sessions ol the board will con- clude tomorrow when the members will geparate to visit New Haven, Wa- terbury, Hartford, Woroester, Mass., and other New Iingland cities. Those present were W. W. Brit- ten of Chicago, president; C. H. Atherton of Cincinnati, general sec- wetary, and Vice Presidents Georwe Leary, Newark, N. J., J. J. Flynn, Brooklyn N. Y., J. K. Fitzgerald, Trenton, N. J., J.
