Red Cross Society Votes to Advance Date from Labor Day to Sept. 18. It has been decided to advance the date of, the Armenian tag day from | Labor Day, September 7, to Saturday, September 18. It was found that | many business places would be closed Labor Day and on account of the Connecticut Fair at Charter Oak and other recreation and sporting events that it would be inadvisable to hold the event that day. M. Hampartzov- mian, editor of Hairenik, an Armenian national organ, issued thrice weekly in Boston, is In this city working in the interest of the Red Cross relief fun. M. Hampartzovmian reports over $100,000 has thus far been raised among the Armenians throughout the United States towards the relief of the thousands of refugees in Turkish Armenig, but this is hardly a drop in the bucket in comparison with the real nedds. The Turks and Kurds are treating the Armenians with unre- strained severity. The war has in- creased the race and religious hate of the Turks and Kurds to a fever heat and wholesale massacres have followed one upon another. Half the population of Armenia 1s in flight and on all sides the stricken people are threatened with starvation and dis- ease. The Armenians have a national re- lief committee in the Caucusus, which is thoroughly organized and prepared to distribute relief funds to the strick- en people, but it essential that work of gathering funds in this country be systematically carried out.
