J TRAVIS MATCHED AGAINST ANDERSON i Iinal Round for Metropolitan Golf Championship to Be Played Today at Rye, N. ¥, Rye, N. Y., June G5 —Walter J. Travis, of Garden City, L. I, thrice a national champion, and John G. An- derson, formerly of Boston but now of New York, were matched in the final round for the Metropolitan golf championship today on the links of the Apawamis club. This was the fifth time Travis has played in the decisive round -for the Metropolitan championship, which he has won thrice. In this tournament he has defeated Oswald Kirkby, last vear’s Metropolitan champion; Jerome D. Travers, Percy Pyne, and Percy Flatt. This was Anderson’s first Metropoli- ian tournament but he has held the Massachusetts amateur title twice and was runner up in the national cham- pionship two years ago.. He repre- sents the Siwanoy Country club. Travis was the favorite on account of. this having won so handily from Oswald Kirkby, last year’s champion while Anderson was carried to five extra holes before he disposed of the junior champion, J. N. G. Carter, in‘ the semi-final round yesterday. PIONEERS’' VS. HUMPHRIES, The Pioneers of this city and the Humphries of New Haven will meet tomorrow on the Ellis street diamond. New Haven, June 5.—In planning for reunion classes at the Yale com- mencement the committee, according to announcement today, intends to re- tain the parade of classes to the base- ball 'game. on Tuesday and the gen- eral festival celebration that evening on the college campus. The class of 1492, which ‘is' composed of reunion- ists whose classes do not have a for- mal reunion, will dine in Woelsey Hall, where the Newberry organ will be played as an accompanimént to the singing.. San Francisco, June 5.—"“Bud” Doble, who drove Maud S to a mark of 2:101-4 more than thirty-five years ago and was the first, it is said, to drive a mile faster than 2:30, headed the speakers’ program today at the dedication of the Panama Pa- cific/ exposition race course. After ‘his speéch, Doble was due to tuck himself into his sulky behind his chestnut horse Wiibur Lou and start in the 2:30 trot, the first race in one of the greatest harness meets héld in this country.
