Confirmation of the Herald's ex- clusive story that the state school in this city is to be abandoned on the completion of the Vocational High school was secured at a special meeting of the board of education vesterday afternoon when George W. Traut reported having received a com- munication from the state boord of education asking the views of the local educators on the project. No action was taken as there is no de- mand for an immediate decision. The board turned down a request from the Woman’s Relief corps for the use of the High or Grammar school auditoriums for a concert. The board believed it would establish a tad precedent as the concert is to be given by a professional company, which guarantees a certain sum to the corps. Tt was decided to authorize the chairman to appeint a committee to adi teachers’ salaries for the com- ing school year. The contract trade for furnishing 1,500 | tons of coal to the schools next fall and winter was awarded to Richard A. Brophy, whose bid, the lowest, $6.40 per ton.
