New Yofk, April 20.—The reaction- ary trend which attended vesterday's late dealings was again effective to- day, selling in large volume being re- newed after an irregular opening. The note of warning sounded by Chairman Gary at the meeting of the United States Steel shareholders prob- ably was the most potent factor in producing the check. Opening prices showed gains in ex- cess of losses, but in only a few in- stances were the higher prices mora than nominal. From this briei period of hesitation the list soon recovered. The efforts of the Chamber of Com- merce to induce the Connecticut com- pany to run a late trolley on West Main street have been crowned with success, Superintendent Frank L. Beardsley today informed the Cham- ber of Commerce that a trolley car will shortly be placed in operation for the convenience of late arrivals from Hartford and those attending social functions in the city. The car which leaves Hartford at 11:22 p. m. will continue up West Main street to Black Rock avenue, leaving the center at 12:07. ' The new service will begin as soon as the new crossover at Black Rock is Dbuilt. The Connecticut company has all the material on hand for this werk and will begin it as soon as the city has completed some of its work in con- nection with the laying of the cross- over. The service will be given a trial and If successful will be made perma- nent. Agitation for this late service has been going on for considerable time and it was one of the first mat- ters taken up by the committee on trolley extension of the Chamber of Commerce.
