C., who had been sent here by Jackson’s wife to bring him to | his home town on a personal charge. The sheriff served Jackson with a warrani and the ball player agreed to accompany him. On the way to the station, words were exchanged and the sheriff attempted to put the hand- cuffs on Jackson. When the sheriff pulled out the handcuffs he was knocked down by Jackson, who then | fled. The sheriff was badly Dbat- | tered. Later Jackson boarded a train for Greenville, put up bonds for the charge against him and returned here vesterday. He wired Joe Birming- ham, manager of the Cleveland club, at Chattanooga at noon and said he would report to the team at that place.
