An order for the lights was given to the com- pany by the selectmen last fall but there. was a delay in carrying it out owing to the inability of the man- agement to get the necessary poles in position. The company was not anxious to hurry the work anyway, especially on Ledge road, as the few lights ordered for that place were to be scattered to such an extent that a large outlay of money would attend the erection of poles and stringing of wires. The re- turns for the investment will be meagre and unless the town increases the number of incandescents it will be a long time beforc the order will mean a profit for the company. Lights in both sections for which orders were placed are badly needed and the installation of the bulbs will make an improvement of incalculable value. Can’t Get Revenue: Stamps. National bank discontin- ued handling revenue stamps, local people have complained strongly about the failure of the government to provide a depot for the stickers for their convenience. Under present conditions local users of the stamps have to go to New Britain or Hartford for their supply and as a result they are sometimes put to trouble. ¥ Some of Lights. Since the the local merchants and others who have occasion to the | stamps in connection with the war tax recently levied consider it peculiar that the government would adopt a | law and at the same time place many obstacles in the way of servance.
