Hours from 10 to 8. yp ewritr Exchange 26 StateSt,, Hid Mrs. Maud Pennington land league, and report has it that the Worcester management is ready and willing tec listen to anything that shows signs of reawakening life in the baseball game in New England. In Boston the agent of the Fed- erals was quite busy and he ap- proached Hugh Duffy, owner of the Portland club; Dan Noonan, part owner 6f the Lawrence team, and | owner of the Haverhill franchise, and Touis Pieper, new owner of the Lynn club. Just what the results were of the conference is not known, but it has been learned that the agent of the Federals declared positively that he intended to have a league in New England this season, and that he ex- pected to be able to convince a ma- jority of the owners of the best clubs in these two leagues that it would be to their interests to hook up with the new Federal minor league. With the meetings of the KEastern association and the New England league only a few days away, there promises to be lively times at both sessions. All the talk in the past about the Federals being here was more or less uncertain, but now they jare actually trying to place a league in this field, and that puts an entire- ly different aspect on the situation. Aside from the interest in the forth- coming meetings, there will be plenty to look forward to in what Presidents O'Rourke and Murnane will have to say, and what they will do, in order to protect their jobs and their sal- aries. | More than that, one of the club | owners of the New England league has recently lost a promising player, who jumped to the Feds, and he is sore about it, as he hoped to sell him next season for a considerable sum of money. It is the intention of this owner to ask at the coming New Englang league meeting what they ! are going to do about it, and to de- clare that, if lhe Federals will pay him a fair price’ for the man, just as any club in organized baseball would have done had the player been draft- ed, to accept the money from the out- laws. Such a statement as that cer- tainly will throw consternation into the ranks of organized baseball, but since the majors so effectually fooled the minors at the recent Omaha con- vention, the latter are waking.up and are now almost ready to take any step to protect themselves, realizing that they can expect no help from the big leagues, who are themselves fight- ing to ward off the Federals. fountain pen, between Bradley riage cheap., Perfect condition.
