TWO TAX EVADERS COMPELLED 10 PAY Had Deciined to Pay Coliector for Year 1912 Admitting in court this morning that he had not yet paid his per- sonal tax for 1912 Adolph Pupple was ordered to do so by Judge Mes- kill and to pay the costs of his pros- ecution in addition. Pupple was ar- rested on complaint of Tax Collector Elliott, who said that he had given him ample time to pay, but had al- ways been put off untll some other time which, it proved, never came. Pupple made no explanation of his act. John Howard was also on a similar charge. judge a hard luck story of having a large family and a small income. He was given the same penalty and was placed on probation until the tax is paid. ‘Accused Is Discharged. Joseph Carasavich, a former em- ploye of “Jake” Winkle, was dis- charged on a count of breach of the peace lodged against him by “Jake.” Winkle told of being bothered by the man who finally came into his office and started a fight. Joseph told a slightly different tale, but as the case was inconsequential at the best the accused was discharged for lack of evidence. Curijosity Cost Him $3. Explaining that he had a “tummy” ache and bought a glass of whiskey to alleviate his suffering Wasil Mastick tried to exonerate himself of a charge of drunkenness. He was ar- irested by Officer Walenczius in front of Emmon’s cafe where he was fast asleep. He was fined $3. Joe Slyssick, who was arrested by Offi- cer Wagner in the police station door- way where he was standing in a drunken condition, declared that he was all right and was just curious to see what would be done with Mas- tick.
