HILL’S DAUGHTER LEADS SUFFRAGETTES Miss Fisie, Howevér, Gets Little Satisfaction Out of Visit ¥ to Capitol. b (Bpecial to the Herald.) i Washington, D. C., July 3.—Miss ilsie, daughter of the former con- jressman Fbenezer J. Hill of ridgeport district of Connecticut, led a:calvacade of suffragists to the rooms of the house rules committes n an endeavor to get some action looking to the passage by the house ®f a resolution granting nation wide Woman' suffrage. the | .was changed to August 1. It had been the original intention of the house rules committee to meet July 1 and vote on a rule that would bring up for consideration and vote in the house the resolution for wom- an suffrage. That announcement went broadcast but recently the date The suf- fragists evidently did not take due notice of the change of the date or, if they did notice it, fearéd a coup by the anti-stiffragists. So they appeared at the capitol yesterday in large num- bers, with Miss Hill prominent in the ranks. When no meeting of the rules com- mittee was found, Miss Hill and others sturted to go around to the various offices of the members of the com- mittee and urge them to get together for a meeting. Miss Hill and her cohorts went away from the capitol much disap- pointed. But they are determined to be there in large numbers August 1 to continue the fight for ‘“the cause.” ISADORE SIMONS EXPLAINS. Isadore Simons, who, with his brother, Rudolph Simons, has built the new hotel on Myrtle street, stated this morning that the suit for $600 brought against Rudolph Simons, by Callgbretta and company is entirely unjust. According to Mr. Simons, it was understood that the money for the mason work on the new hotel would be paid thirty days after the work was finished. This would give him about another month in which to pay the bill, he claims. Calla- bretta, he says, brought suit without getting the consent of his partners, Henry Battiston and Mario Banetti and they, Mr. Simons says, have repu- diated the action taken in the name Furthermore, Mr. Simons says, Callabretta owes him §$2.71, having overdrawn his account. MUST ASK FOR SUPPLIES, In conformity with a resolution adopted at the last common council meeting by which a new system of issuing supplies was adopted, City Clerk A. L. Thompson has sent to the various city departments notices that hereafter when supplies are needea application is to be made to the com- mittee on supplies and printing. The application is to be made on a blank form drawn up several Yyears ago when a similar system was tried out. The committee on supplies believes that considerable money can be savea by looking out for the pennies in the distribution and use of supplies. VACATION SCHOOL OPENS. A daily vacation school free to any children from 3 to 15 years of age will be opened at 9:30 on Monday morn- ing in the parish house of the Center church. The smaller children will play games, sing songs and have Bible stories told to them: the older boys will be taught to make hammocks and baskets, and the older girls will learn to weave and sew. DALEY ON THE CARPET, The municipal ice committee last night expressed their thoughts in no uncertain terms regarding the manner in which the contractor has hauled ice from the house at Shuttle Meadow to the distribution station on Com- mercial street and told him to “get busy.” The contractor ascribed his troubles of inefficient employes. | We are offering a nice two 1914. lassified CASH IN ADVANCE.
