Floyd, Tampa, AN APPEAL TO THE PUBLIC SPIRITED ‘Editor Telegram: Referring to a local item in last evening’s issue, I would like to say that so far, every man on the guar- antee fund has met the situation of the deficit in a big, broad, cheerful manner, realizing thoroughly that no one is to blame for unexpected and disappointing result from a financial standpoint. Such weather |38 We had day after day almost all the time the players were here is unprecedented, the U. S. Weather Bureau reporting the lowest average daily temperature for March in the history of the department. Ordin- arily we have very good weather in March but the elements were against us this year and they and not any man or men connected with the effort to bring the Louisville Baseball Club are alone responsible for the deficit. Could such a result have been foreseen we should have felt compelled to pass this splendid plece of advertising up as being' more than we could afford, though | any man who is experienced along, publicity lines knows that it is well worth to Lakeland all that it has cost. And here I come to the point of this letter. While this handfull of public-spirited men will stand up “four-square” to meet the burden imposed upon them, there ought to be and doubtless is a number of equally public-spirited men here who seeing that advertising sults of this effort have been mutual and of benefit to every citizen, will their fellow-citizens carry the equal and unexpected burden. un- miliated it a goodly number of our citizens do not come up in a manly way with a check, no matter how small, to show at least their appre. ciation of an unselfish effort for the benefit of the entire community, and that they too have red blood in their veins. 1 am happy to say that with this deficit in view, only a day or two ago, two of our good citizens volun- tarily pledged themselves to help in the matter, though not on the guar- antee fund. Do not therefore pat yourself on the back because you'escaped being seen when the committee got up the not llable for the deficit. Anything | that walks and is able to reason can | do that, but, in a big, human, manly and public-spirited maaner send in your check for, or hand to the treas- urer at once, such amount as you feel able under the pressure of such circumstances. I am writing this letter under im- pulse and without consulting the | guarantors, because I have faith in the men of this town' and believe many of them will only be glad to have the opportunity of doing the right and manly thing. The Even- ing Telegram will promptly give credit to all who answer this appeal, but do it now because the matter must be finally settled up this week. A. J. HOLWORTHY, Treasurer. ——0 LA MODE IS HAVING SHOWING | OF EASTER LINGERIE DRESSES AND HATS Yesterday and today the LaMode has been thronged with ladies at- tending the first showing of Easter gowns and hats, and all are delight- ed with the beautiful array of fash- ionable apparel which this enter- prising firm has on display. F. Blue, north of Kath- leen. Mr. Blue is having his land cleared by the use of Atlis Dyna- mite, under the supervision of Mr. H. A. Kendall, representative of the Tampa Agricultural Dynamite Co.,' of Tampa, the work being directly in charge of Mr. W. B. Self, an ex-| pert blaster from Pennsylvania. Thismethod of clearing land is not | as well-known in Florida as in some | other sections of the country, where it is recognized as being the most economical and efficient method of | clearing land, as' well as sub-soiling, ditching and draining land. In clearing land with Atlas Dyna- mite it is immaterial whether it is| stumps or standing trees. | The Atlas Dynamite used on this | work removes a standing tree as| easily and quickly as it does a! stump and leaves only a small hole | easily filled, and takes the stump; out so completely that land cleared in this way is ready for the plow as' soon as the pieces are removed, which can easily be done as the | stump is so broken as not to require any special effort to dispose of them. Stumps removed with Atlas Dyna- mite leaves the ground thoroughly shattered and aeriated for many, decline to see a small proportion of feet around the stump thus giving | urday, April 3, Mrs. the land the added benefit of sub-| In goiling which is lately recognized as' fact 1 shall be disappointed and hu-'o¢ great benefit, especially to land underlaid with a hard pan or water- table. Atlas Dynamite is also used for. sub-soiling lands already in culti- vation whether orange or grape: | fruit groves, or farm or truck land The benefits of sub-sofling with At~ lIas Dynamite is shown in the ins creased crop capacity of the land, ai saving in fertilizer and freedom from the effects of drowth and wet iseasons. It makes all tha soil tap ! 8oil and available for plant use, loos- ' ening and aeriating the hardest ground and giving tree and plant; roots a chance to grow, thus assur- ing a full crop. Mr. Kendall explained to the !wrner that the most economical method of ditching and draining land was attained by the use of At- Ilas Dynamite and also stated that, he would be glad to demonstrate to: anyone interested.
