A tree is also damaged by scales of all kinds and like people is subject to several dan- gerous diseases. it to decay or rot. When these cavities or rot- ten places are first noticed they are very small, but will decay very fast if neglected, similar to a tooth. After it once gets a start the tree will soon all rot or decay, if not attended to prop- erly by an expert. Cavities or rotten places in trees are likewise treated by this science, which is known as Tree Surgery or Tree Dentistry, and which is done as follows: First, the decayed and fun- goid wood is all thoroughly re- moved by instruments and tools made specially for this purpose; also insects, worms, etc. Then the cavity is thoroughly sactur- ated with a special combination of insecticides, fungicides and healing wood preservatives. The bark and cambium tissue, which is found just under the bark, is scientifically removed or cut back form the cavity to the otuer edge, after which the co-' vity is filled with cement speci- ally mixed for the purpose and is reinforced. In some cases metal is used to cover cavities, as there are various kinds of them. When these cayities are prop- erly filled and treated by an ex- pert the bark will begin at once to heal over the cement, .or met- al, which ever it may be. There- fore, it prevents any further decay, and saves the tree from complete destruction. The tree will at once begin to flourish and develop. A treé ' should - be sprayed by an expert, with nroper insecticides, or fungi- cides, or both, if required. This shotild be done as soon as the insec or discase attacks the trec and thereby you save the tree from dcaying. When a limb or branch is amputated, the cut should be properly made and treated af- terwards. If this wound is ex- pose da cavity or rotten place will develop. Metal caps are placed over these wounds to prevent the waste of sap and also prevents any decay, as it is perfectly sealed and will heal over. A split limb, or even a split tree, can be saved by being bolted together and made to graft back by experts. Chain- ing is another art in tree surge- ry; that is, all kinds of trees are made stronger by chaining the limbs together, relieving the strain of extra weight of fruit, etc., on limbs and branches; chaining also protects the tree from strong winds. Many other beneficial ments and appliances are known an doperated by tree THOSE WERE HAPPY DAYS. 2 Reel Comedy Featuring . VICTORIA FORDE AND EDDIE LYONS FOR THE DEFENSE Drama.
