Ar-| rangements are already well under way to build a magnificent Elks Home, which will be a structure of which the city may well be proud. ‘At the meeting last night plans were also presented for an Elks’ Minstrel, which will be given at the Auditorium on April 9th. This af. fair promises to surpass the fine pro- duction which was given last year, and it will be one of the rare shows that will tax the capacity of our great Auditorium. The public will expect something good, and we feel that we can promise the show will even exceed their expectations. Knight—L. C. R. Biggers, Sporting Edl(or!““‘ce“ did not attend any of the ex- Louisville} Herald.) It is rather early for off -days, but the chances are that the majority of the Colonels were glad when they woke up this morning and found it raining. After the stiff workout of the first day out, Manager Hayden's men felt that a little rest would do no harm. Hardly ever have we seen a more strenuous first day’s workout than the one of .Thursday. The Colonels were 80 outlandishly enthuslastic about the warm weather and were 8o glad to don the spiked shoes and uniforms again that they worked until their tongues were hanging out. Two hours in the morning and one hour and a half in the af. ternoon of the first day is quite strenuous. That’s what the Colon- els did yesterday and when Skipper Hayden wanted to call it off they yelped for more and didn’t want to go in. As a result it was rather difficult for the boys to crawl out of bed this morning. “Tubby” Clemons, es- pecially found that the going was rather tough and had to call in his good friends, Jack Stansbury and Jake Northrop who are always will - ing to assist him in everything that is undertaken. Anyone ex- peditions. Jack Hayden and Ezry Midkiff were the victims of quite a joke late in the afternoon. It seems that a party of the Col- onels who were out on a sight see ing expedition in an automobile Tounded a corner in a hurry and found Rope Perry, Bill Ellis and “Doc” Scanlon talking to two little negro boys who had strings of fish. Of course, this trio was blamed for trying to buy fish when they could not catch them and it became so hot that they turned State’s evidence. T happened anoher way. Ellis, Perry and Scanlon were out for a walk and saw Manager Hayden and Midkiff standing talkinz to the isame little negroes half a block away. The latter pair had dug down into their jeans for the coin to pay for the fish but when they caught a glimpse ot Ellis, Perry and Scanlon they passed it up and came ahead to the hotel. Then Ellis and Perry hunted up the darky fishermen and got the real “‘dope” on the situ ation. Hayden and Midkiff wanted to buy the fish all right but they didn’t have the exact change. All of the plavers enjoy fishing tand the chances are that they will be at it with a vim within the next If(-w days. They are pairing off in parties and they are coing to find the best place to fish and then they will all go to the one lake. Mr. and Mrs. C. Rucker Adams returned thig afternoon Petersburg.
