SUBSCRIPTION PAYMENTS HAVE LARGE VOTE VALUES IN MAJESTIC'S POPULAR CONTEST The coupons appearing in the Lakeland Evening Telegram every day are worth 100 votes each in Ma- jestic popularity contest. Save your couponsg and get your friends to save Telegrem coupons for you. If you know of any who are not subscribers to the Telegram (there may be some such persons in Lakeland, but:they are extremely rare), induce them to subscribe, and you receive 15,000 votes for each year's subscription. This same proposition applies on re- newal subscriptions. Gpt your friends to pay their subscriptions through you, if they are in arrears; get them to pay a year or more in advance——they will want the paper, anyway, and the Telegram will be here as long as Lakeland lasts— they take no risk in paying many ‘yearg ahead. For every dollar thus paid 3,000 votes are given, and ev- ery person you know can help you or the contestant you are working for, by simply paying for their pa- ‘per, @8 they expect to do anyway. The same proposition of votes is given for subscriptions to the Lake- land News, the old reliable weekly paper, the subscription price of which is $1.50 a year, and 4,500 votes with each yearly subscription. t tt The Ways srnd Means committee of the Russian Dume has unani. mously recommended that the gov- ernment declare a monopoly on tea, tobacco, oil matcheg and insurance of all kinds. FINE SHOWING IN THE GASPARILLA PAGEANT Trains nuve been’ crowded to the doors today with hundreds of pleas- ure seekers going down to take in the Gasparilla festivities at Tampa today and tomorrow, and all day the hum of motor cars could be heard on the road leading to that city, a con~ stant stream of machines meking the road take on & lively appearance. Many cars went from Lakeland while Bartow, Fort Meade and other adjoining towns sent their quota, all passing through this city with col- ors flying. ‘While today is a big occasion, on account of the landing of King Gas. parilla, tomorrow is the day when every Lakeland citizen who can will be in attendance, as this city is to be splendidly represented in the magnificent parade which will eclipse any pageant ever seen in the South. Early this morning the two large floats that will depict Lake - land and her interests, started on the long trip to Tampa, and al though they will not be given the finishing touches until Tampa is reached, it could easily be seen that they will attract wide attention. On the large float & display of fine poultry, @ horse, a cow, a sheep and a hog will represent the live stock interests of Lakeland’s back country, also there will be a display of phos- phate, citrus fruits and strawberries. A part of the citrus display will con- sist of orange trees in bearing. At each corner of the float is an enclos- ure formed of gold-painted pickets, to confine the live stock. Several large signs, bearing the name LAKELAND, appear at various places, while on each side will ap . pear a large sign, “Products of ‘Lakeland’s Surrounding Country."” Countless flags, pennants and long streamers of bunting, artistically ar - ranged, will complete the float. ‘The smaller float, Which will rep- resent the city of Lakeland, will be very attractive also. Each side of the float extends upward in the form of a pyramid, being attractively painted in gold and green, and on this float will be seated nine young ladies who will be wrapping oranges and etrawberries, “Which they will throw out to the cfewds along the line of march. The young ladies, Misces Mary Groover, Mary McKay, Myrtle McRae, MHdred Hampton, Mary Qwen, Frances Straw, Brun-. nel Swindell, Edith Tomlinson and Reva Fletcher, wilf, be . dresed In white, with gold green sashes and gold and gree] . * The float is built to repra keland's alti- tude, and the yougs.lady who will sit on the highest. it of the float will carry a large’ nant bearing the words, “Lakelatid on Top, 227 Feet Abova the Sea,’ Other suitable inscriptions will appear on the sides of 'the float. At the base of the float- the words' “LAKELAND STRAWBERRIES" will be worked out in strawberries which will have as a background oranges and grape= fruit. In addition to the floats, Lake - land's Municipa) #Mld in uniform, will be in line and the Elks, about 75 etrong, with their regulation white suits and purple umbrellae, will compose a marching body that will be viewed with pride by al the “Bills” and their: thousands of friends; 30-foot streamers, in the Elks' colors, have been painted on which the words ‘Lakeland Lodge B. P 0 E. No. 1291, appear, and these will be displayed to the best advantage. In short, Lakeland will be in the Gasparilla pageant with the bells on, and we believe that all will be of the same opinion after the parade is over. \ l e SR Arkansas is the sixteenth State with a State wide prohibition law among its statutes.
