C. Stevens presiding. Reports from the Circles showed an increase in work done and sev- eral new members gained. A good amount of money has also been raised for our missionary work. A communication from Mrs. E. C. Angell, tendering her resignation as president of the society on ac- count of 111 health, was read. This caused a great deal of regret as she has been such a faithful, efficient officer, beloved by all. ‘A rising vote of thanks was given to show the appreciation of the entire so. ciety for her service and a boquet of flowers sent her as a slight token of esteem. At the next meeting, Feb. 15, a program on ‘“Personal Service” will be rendered. Missionary Union Of South Florida The Woman’s Missionary Union of the South Florida Association held their meeting in connection with the Fifth Sunday meeting ?‘rldny af. ternoon, at the Baptist Pastorium. There happened fortunately to be lying on the secretary’s desk a clip- ping with regard to Los Angeles weather of last Friday reading as follows: “DELUGE GREETS WINTER VISITORS IN CALIFORNIA” ‘Winds Rage Over Los Angeles and San Diega, While Rain Falls in Torrents “While the wind howled over Los Angeles at a thirty six mile gait, the rain almost drowned the city. San Diego was but a little better off. A severe storm coming in from the Pa- cific brought wind and rain to the entire southern portion of the Gold. en Gate State yesterday and the day before. + “The weather report for Los An- geles yesterday morning showed a total of 3.58 inches of rain for the preceding twenty-four hours. It is nearly an inch more than the nor- mal for the entire month. wind reached a maximum of thirty- six miles an hour. “At San Diego the downfall was 1.20 inches, but the wind made up 'lor the slack in the rain. It reached forty two miles per hour, which is within one mile of the rec. ord.” The visitor instantly made the re- mark that such weather was un. usual for California and the secre- tary instantly replied: ‘“Same here, friend.” CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to the kind friends for their many acts of sympathy and kindness during our recent sad be. reavement of our beloved husband and father and especially Mr. Gen- try & Co., who did all in their pow-| er to alleviate our sorrow.
