The tables were then laid with dainty lace cloths and the hostess served delicious refreshments of sandwiches and cocoa, also luscious tangerineg and guavas, such as only the Thomas grove can grow. | At a late hour the members ad- journed to meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Willcox, Feb 12, prompt- iy at 7 o'clock. This is the second meeting the club has enjoyed, the first being held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sage. W. C. T. U. Meeting The W. C. T. Miss Key Honored Mrs. W. F. Johnson delightfully entertained a number of friends with progressive rook Friday evening, in honor of her sister, Miss Key, of Ar. kadelphia, Ark., who is spending the winter in her home. The guests were met at the door by Miss Lena McCrary, Mrs. John. son and Miss Key. After meeting the honoree they were escorted. to the punch bowl, which was grace- fully presided over by Mrs. John- son’s charming little daughter, Mary Louise. The tables were arranged in the spacious living room which had been decorated for the occasion with cut flowers and ferns. After many interesting games of rook had been played, Miss Williams, Miss McRae and Mr. Williamson rendered selections which added greatly to the pleasure of the guests. | Mrs. Johnson, assisted by Miss McCrary and little Miss Mary | us often. The matter of the celebration of Jefferson Davis' birthday, June 3, was discussed and on motion of Comrade McMullen the veterans and Sons will co-operate with the Daughters on that occasion. On motion of the commander of the Soms, V. I. Stevenson, the Daughters will select a suitable per- son to read the farewell address of Jefterson Davis delivered to the U. S. Senate. In support of his motion Command- er Stevenson made some appropriate remarks and said most truly, that if the mass of the people knew what ithat address contained they would never say that Davis was a traitor | to his country. By vote the Camp pledged its sup- port and co-operation to the Daugh- ters in the observance of Memorial Day, April 26. It was ordered that the minutes be read’at the eclose of each meet- ing for correction. On motion of Gen. Please let me say, with the au- thority of the Orlando Board of Trade, that no printed matter has gone from this city which can in any manner be charged to the city, or any of its constituted organiza.- tions which in any manner gives a slighting comparison to any Florida town. 1t is true, we believe there are about 8,500 people in Orlando. The actual figures will be kuown as coon as the canvas now being made under the direction of the city com- missioners shall have been complet- ed. And I may say: We are glad if Lakeland has that or more, since Or- lando does not seek to advance her interests at the expense of any other city. If you know of any other adver- tisement than that of Mr. Vance’s, making up the “Considerable matter advertising Orlando,” kindly point to it for our information. As to the little book published by the above gentleman, I notice that :dn his main table he gives both Lakeland and Orlando the same pop - ulation, viz., 5,000, while in the top ical columns he gives the figures you state, showing that the book is in no sense accurate.
