Mr. Marshall W. Douglass left today for Pelham, N. C., where he will spend a few days before turning to hig home at Burnley, Va. Mr. Douglass spent the last week with his cousins, Mr. and Mrs, F. A, Perkins, and was very much pleased with the beauty of Lakeland and surrounding community, also the hospitality of our Florida peo- ple. Dr. Richard Leffers and Dr. Watson have dissolved partnership and Dr. Leffers has fitted up offices in the Skipper building over the postoffice, where he may be found in Rooms 2 and 3. Mr. Harry English received a telegram this morning that the sporting good concern in Chicago, with which he is connected, hadv been destroyed by fire. It may be| possible that the disaster will re- quire Mr. English’s presence in Chi- cago and he may have to, return earlier than he had anticipated; however, it is hoped that this will not be necessary. The old Barker residence, corner of North Florida avenue and Mag- nolia street, which has been unoccu= pied for some time, caught fire about | four o’clock this morning, and ll-i though the department responded immediately, the fire had gained considerable headway and the roof had burned oft before the fire was extinguished. The building is old and delapidated and it will now | probably be torn down. It is thought that the fire was of incen- diary origin. RAYMONDO. 3728 A band of nineteen tramps were rounded up west of the city yester. day and lodged in the city jail by the county officials, prior to being taken to Bartow this morning. Five of the number succeeded in break- ing down the iron door of their cell and escaped some time before day- light. The tramps were given a hearing in Judge Thompson's court vesterday and six were dismissed. The eight remaining were taken to Bartow this morning.
