J, Editor The Courier: Since reading !_ymn' kind invitation in The Courier some weeks ago inviting any one to write a letter for The Courier, 1 {have thouzht maybe a few lines {from an old Randolph boy now lo- cated at lakeland, Fla., would be gladly read. I have been a sub- scriber to your paper for over twen- ty rears. It was twenty-five years [last August since I left the old farm jin Concord town:-hip at Salem church postoffice, 1 have taken the paper nearly ever since that day and treaq it for years before I left the farm. Last summer [ had the pleas- ure to visit the old home which is 'hl sieht of old Salem church just op_ posite the graveyard. Many scenes of my hoyhood came to my mind as I looked at the old house, the row of cedar trees and the many stately oaks by the side of the public road that had o often shieldeq me from the hot summer sun during my life on the farm. The trees, the ola house looked quite natural but the forest north and west of the hou-e had changed very much. One scene which brought sadness to my heart was the increase in the population of the city of the dead just across the road. As I read the inscriptions on many of the tombstones, I learned the names of the departed friends that I haw known in years gone by. Twenty-six years is a big gap in & life and as I thought of many that had passed over the river I could nm but think of why T was still left. Possibly if my friends could knr)\\; they would say that T was suli spared to help raise orphan children I was raised an orphan, never faw my father or mother and since [ have had a family of my own I have had four different sets of children to help raise ang care for.
