NATURAL SILK HOSE COMING' | Scarcity of Dye Stuffs Has Brou:h! Fashion to the Rescue, With Mo Excellent Idea. A week after the European wa;: broke out it began to be whlspe;ie about, fearsomely, that all thev !.“ stuffs were tied up across the vta ld’ and that American women v&ouk shortly be hard put to, to secure stoc! d ings to match their boot tops anh their dancing frocks. Sure enoufi]. dye stuffs are tied up and pink, cte blue and bronze stockings are going to be difficult to get before long—to say nothing of pure white stockings, lorl the scarcity of dye stuffs includes also a dearth of bleaching chemicals. But fashion has come to the rescuel with a season of shades in brown m‘l(l| tawn tones which almost demand the soft creamy tint of natural silk hose; that is, stockings that have been neither bleached nor dyed, but remain in the natural, pale ecru shade of the raw silk. With the black frocks and tafloring which are so much the mode this fall, French and English women | are wearing cream net chemlet!esl and collars of cream mousseline, and these creamy belongings are so lovely with black that they make snow white look harsh and cheap—as a tub collar of cotton lawn looks beside a collar of rare old, ivory-tinted lace. Ivory-tinted stockings—which are in : the exact “natural” shade—accompany the bronze pumps or fawn-topped but- toned frocks of the mouse brown crepe de chine or pussy willow taffeta which are the dernier cri this fall, ) the creamy natural silk stockings, ac- companied by boots with high heels and buttoned tops of fawn colored kid, being altogether fetching. Many of the new suits and ¢ have decided, close fitting lines. Redingotes of white cloth will be ex- tremely fashionable this fall. Costumes of white net or lace are trimmed with ornaments of jet. Scotch plaids and mixtures will be used for coats, capes and tailored suits. Very chic with the tailored rig is the embroidered waistcoat of white pique. Navy blue and brown and green are in the greatest favor for. autumn. Among light colors sand and putty are chosen. There is a great demand for plain, straight skirts on account of the long ‘coat. Other straight skirts are plaited. | The apron string sash is a pretty 1 new idea. The strings are fastened at the side seam and are tied in a + loose knot at the back. Patch Pockets. ‘ On some of the new skirts that are full at the hips patch pockets are ! employed to control this fullness. On a gray velvet frock with a plaited pep- ! lum big pockets of satin are used on the hips. Sometimes these pockets | are embroidered. | udood Fishing in Crater Lake, ! Originally there were no fish in | Crater lake, one of nature’s wonders | on the summit of the Cascade range in southern Oregon. Rainbow trout were planted, and now they swarm the waters, ranging up to ten pounds in weight. The lake itself has an ‘mlles (water surface), which is sit. | "ated in the caldera of an extinct vol- | cano. It is surrounded by unbroken cliffs which range from five hundred to nearly two thousand feet in height. There was plenty of 80od reasons why I should have taken it. “At least 17 insistent duties glared at me from various corners of the house. They glared at me accusing- ly, as one who would willingly neglect them. They glared at me indignantly, as one who lightly assumed duties with no idea of discharging them. They glared at me pityingly, as one who had been slackly brought up and didn't know any better. But I turned my back on them all, dressed the children and went. “This s why I went.
