In giv- ing this unequivocal endorsement of the “buy a bale of cotton” move- ment Swift & Co. will perform a valuable service to the movement, as the company has over four hundred branch houses in the country who will buy, in the aggregate, more than $20,000 of the staple. DEATH OFNOTED FLORIDIAN Jacksonville, Sept. 22.—Senator A. S. Mann of this city died at Bar Harbor, Me., Saturday night after an operation for appendicitis, per- fomed there last Thursday. His body will be brought to Jacksonville for interment, former Gov. W. 8. Jen nings, his son-in-law, having left last night for New York to meet the body and accompany it with “Mrs. Mann and Mrs. Jennings to this city. Senator Mann was one of the best known citizens of Florida, hav- ing represented Hernando county in the State Senate for several terms, and having been engaged promi- nently in real estate busincss in this and other parts of the State. He was also an enthusiastic good roads ad- vocate and did much to stimulate road building in Florida. He was born in Centerville, Ohio, some six- ty-three years ago, and spent the last thirty years of his life in Flor- ida. TELEPHONE FOREMAN DIES FROM INJURIES Gainesville, Sept. 22.—N. B. Hall, plant foreman of the Southern Bell Telephone Co., is dead from in- juries inflicted at 2:30 o’clock Sat- urday afternoon when an awning, upon which he was supervising work, collapsed, precipitating him to the pavement. A ton cf brick, which formed the cornice ahove the awning, fell to the pavement and Hall was found buried in the debris. His left arm was broken near the shoulder and his left leg broken near the thigh. In addition to th‘s. he was horribly cut and bruised. J. L. Mooty, lineman with Hall, was painfully injured, but it is thought he will recover. BROWN WILL SEE FRISCO Jacksonville, Sept. 22.—With J. G. Wilson, who is charged with én- ticing a woman to accompany him from Sacramento to Jacksonville, in custody, U. S. Marshal J. C. Brown left last night over the At- lantic Coast Line for San Francisco. Marshal Brown intended leaving on Sunday night, but decided to post- pone the trip a day in order to be in the city until his chief deputy, N. L. Pinder, arrived from his vaca- tion trip to Canada. Moore, on a sim- ilar charge, and was held by Judge E. E. Willard today on a bond of $300 for her appearance in criminal court.
