Jones, State game and fish com- | missioner, at hig new quarters in the capitol, is quite busy in making .m‘upurutiyns for the opening of the hunting season. Mr. Jones states that news has reached his office con- ‘lz\'m'mg statements from citizens of some counties to the effect that they Iimuml to hunt this season without { paying hunting licenses. Mr. Jones | stated that it would be his purpose and endeavor to apprehend any per- sons who attempted to violate the game and fish laws; that in the counties from which such state- ments have come, special service men, in addition to the regular war- 'dons. will be appointed with this end in view. During this week Mr. Jones is visiting all the counties be- tween here and Jacksonviiie, and later, on his return, will visit the West Florida counties, calling on the county wardens, instructing them, and generally outlining the work under his administration for the coming season. The laws creating the game ana fish department of Florida provide that the commissioner shall have his office in the capitol, or may have it at any other point in the State by the consent of the governor. 't'he duties of his office have peen con- ducted from Jacksonville, but for greater convenience in being in touch with other departments of the government, Mr. Jones has just moved his office to Tallahassee, and has an attractive suit of offices up on the second floor of the capitol. The first annual report of the commissioner has just been pre- pared, and presents some very in- teresting information in connection with the first year’s administration of this department. This report shows that $4,844.86" was collected as fines entered against various per- sons for violating the game and fish laws, these fines ranging from $1 to $100; $4,5685 were the receipts during the year from the sale of licenses. The largest receipts for any one year for licenses was from Hillsboro county, $3,222. The smallest amount for any one county was from Monroe county, $52. Of- fice expenses and other disburse- ments for this department for the year were $18,677.61, leaving a balance to the credit of the depart- ment of $27,136.64, $5,000 of which is retained under the terms of the law to the credit of the de- pnrtmon[ for expenses, the balance, over $20,000, being turned in to the State treasury. FAMOUS FLORIDA MOTOR CAR DRIVER KILLED Jacksonville, Sept. 15.—Frank Dearborn, well known in this State as a driver of fast motor cars in racing events, and better known in this section through having married Miss Milly Irwin of St. Augustine, where he lived for a while, died this week in Coney Island hospital, New York, following severe injuries sustained while driving in a race at Brighton Beach last Satur@ay. His body was taken to Boston, his for- mer home, for interment, and his widow will return to Florida, and make her home in St. Augustine with her father. Mrs. Dearborn, who was at the race track when the accident occurred, accompanied her hushand to the hospital, and never left his side until the end came. Date Standard Time | Convention Deferred Jacksonville, Sept. 15—The date of the convention, called to take| place in this city today to change the standard time of Florida, by lhl‘{ {Miami Commercial Club, has been | postponed by that body and will hol announced later. This postpmlo-! ment was effected at a recent meet- ing of the organization, when Pres- ident McCaskill, of the Miami body stated that a representative of the Florida East Coast had been ap- pointed and was ready to attend, but that several of the other rail- roads had not yet been able to make their arrangements to have repre- sentatives present. W. J. Harra- han, president of the Seaboard Air Line, in a recent letter to J. W. Humphries, chairman of the time committee of the Miami Commercial (Club, says: “The question of the division of standard time as a matter which was gone into at the time that they were established. I do not, however, feel that these divisions are un- changeable, but they should not be changed except for very good and explicit reasons. I will be very glad if you will kindly give me the reas- ons why they ought to be changed, so that we may consider what our attitude in the mater should be.” SH PP PSPPRRPPESFPEPPPEE D OFFICE ROOMS FOR RENT In Telegram Building Coolest and Best Lighted in the City Running Water in Each Room Call at TELEGRAM OFFICE SHEFEP RS E DD b B diged FOR FRESH FRUITS CANDIES.
