The propo- sition was also made to the city gov- ernment, who agreed to co-operate with the Board of Trade to the ex- tent of one-half the amount required, if the latter body considercd the scheme sufficiently meritorious, Af- ter careful investigation, the Board decided to turn down the proposi- tion, though they did not question its merit; and, instead, on motion of John F. Cox, the Board unanimously concurring, it was decided to use this money to pay for 960 three- months subscriptions to the Lake- land News, to be sent to parties who might be seeking information about this city or section. In other words, instead of paying $240 to an outsider for a single page in a booklet to be indiscriminately circulated, and which might fall in the hands of only a few people who are interested, 960 people who have already expressed interest will re- ceive thirteen weekly visits of a pa- per devoted wholly to Lakeland, and which each week will present an ac- curate picture of conditions as they exist here, and give them a better idea of the country and the commun- ity than they could possibly secure from any other source. That this is by far the best form of advertising, and incomparably the cheapest, is evident to anyone who studies the matter most casually. — NOTICE, HUDSON BARACAS There will be a moonlight straw ride Tuesday night Philathea class.
