Daughtrey, on Lake Parker. —— s Mrs. Phillip Langford, of Fort Meade, is in the city the guest of her brother, Mr. Lytton Cordery and wife. Mrs. H. D. Bassett and children Ga., having where they are now at Demorest, left Franklin, N. C., have been since June 1. Some time late Thursday night, Mrg. D. O. Rogers, wife of the es- teemed attorney at law, was awak- ened by a noise in the colored ser- vant’s quarters back of their home. Arming herself with an automatic shotgun, she stepped to the win- dow and on seeing a colored man trying to break in, fired two shots S at him, frightening him away. Men are busy on the Atlantie Coast Line replacing the old ties they have been using with creosot- ~ ed ties, which the company claims ~ will last for from eight to ten years S in this climate. It is understood that the entire line from Lakeland to Fort Myers will be overhauled and placed in much better condition than heretofore. Those who have been traveling this road will learn \of the improving of this line with | pleasure. —Fort Myers Note to Tam- ARGADIA PLAYS HERE MONDAY AND TUESI]AY Arcadia plays Lakeland here next Monday and Tuesday and big crowds will witness the games. LOUGHMAN BEATS YBOR IN THE SECOND GAME OF THE SERIES | \\oods, The Loughman and Ybor City teams journeyed to Kissimmee yes- terday where the former were vic- torious by a score of 5 to 1. They will play the third game of the se- ries in Loughman today. A Lakeland boy, Shelton Meharg, was one of the stars in yesterday game, getting two hits out of four times at bat. The Kissimmee baseball fans seem to have a hard feeling against the Lakelandites. Many remarks were heard yesterday such as ‘““The Lake- land umpires always win the game for Lakeland,” and “They are afraid to go away from home for fear they will get beat.' One of the Loughman players said the same thing on the depot platform last night. Now here's the whole thing in a nutshell, baseball fans, all over Florida, so isten and paste this lit- tle article in your serap book. The Lakeland team is composed of hard working boys, not a salaried member on the team. We consider Thursday a half holiday here, and every work- to be present.
