Jne year ..., $5.00 Six montne, ........00 2.60 fhree montns .............. 126 Delivered anywhere within the limits of the City of Lakeland for 10 eents a week, " From the same office 18 issued THE LAKELAND NEWS, A weekly newspaper giving a resume of local matters crop conditions, eounty affairs, etc. Sent anywhere for $1.00 per year. ———————————— LAKES AND PARKS What an asset to Lakeland is her little park in the center of the city! There is nothing that gives more en- joyment to both residents and visit- ors, than this convenient breathing and resting place, It is a great pity was cheap more that while property land within the city was not pur- chased for park purposes. However, it is too late to indulge in regrets about this now. We can only plan to mike the most of the advantages left us. These POsse are rar sed by most cities. superior to those We have three beautiful lakes lying wholly in the city, anyone of which is an at- traction of priceless worth, though we who live in constant view of these beauty spots do not apprais them at their true value. There are cities which would cheerfully vote many thousands of dollars if they could by doing so secure the small- est and least attractive of these lakes, familiarity with which makes us regard them with indifference. The Telegram hopes to see, at no distant day, each of these three lakes girdled by a handsome drive, bor- dered with grassy anq shady parks, where the people of the city and the city's visitors may sit and enjoy the beauty of these lakes amid surround- ings which with no tremendous ex- penditure could he made as beauti- ful as may be founq in the length and breadth of the land. At present we dv not get the full benefit of our lakes. Only one has a driveway around it, anqd the condi- tion of this is such as to afforq lit- tle pleasure. An unfortunate mis- take permitted the main approach to the lake nearest the city's center to be blocked by a building, and there is no way by which vehicles may pass around this lake. These are conditions, however, which can be corrected, or vastly bettered, Tt will take some money, but the money woulq be well spent, even viewing the matter from a purely utilitarian standpoint. These lakes could be made an at- | traction which would advertise Lake- lang all over the country ang bring people from far and near to enjoy their charm. This is not idle dream—it is a practical, business proposition. And even {f the pleas- ure and benefit to our home people were the only result that would ac- crwe, the project would still be well worth our while. an S D Expens wccounts fileq by the can- didates indicate that there are peo- ple yet who will take a “Borrowed money" chance. is an item that appears in several of the returns. 0- - In support of the theory that any body can run for any office and got some votes, the Pensacola News cites the fact that the barber who ran | against Frank Clark received some support Some people will vote for anybody just for the pleasure of voting against somebody Some men who are scared to death if you mention bonds or publie im provements bec these may “raise taxes,” spit away tobacco as much as their taxes on the proposition Wwoulq amount to while learnedly de- secanting thereon Of course, we Away with taxes entirely ninoles don’t pay any.
