Starting from small beginnings, it has attained remarkable proportions, and the premium iist covers every product of farm and garden, besides those of the shop and many branches of industry and domestic egonomy. It is also self-sustaining, and the stock in fact, has been paying a divi- dend. This should encourage other counties to foster such exhibits, which are a tremendous stimulus to | agricultural and political produc- tion and do a great work in adver- tising the State's resources. Polk county has had two or three credit- able exhibitions of this kind, and is preparing for another next winter that will surpass any of her previous attempts in this line. PESHORIESY SSER The merger of the Chicago Tnter- Ocean with the Record Herald, fol- lowing on similar consolidations at New Orleans and Mobile, and the fading from existence of several dally papers recently, emphasizes the fact that newspapers are constantly becoming less profitable to their publishers.
