The idea is to achieve harmony in a perfect color scheme. But if they are going to change their gowns every time they pass from the drawing-room to the dining-room or to any other apart- ment, life will surely become a littie laborious. A beautiful throat is often acquired at the expense of the lines at the back of the neck, and still oftener is this line spoiled through simple care lessness or disregard of it. No woman should neglect her triplicate mirror nor be heedless of any of the details it points out to her. If the chest is poorly poised then the next step is to pose the head, so that throat lines and neck line at the back conform to each other. Be sure it is not thrust forward or hung down. The one attitude causes the neck to become hollow at the base and the other to make the throat muscles stringy, and both postures are awkward, Many persons, men as well as wom- en, carry the head as if it were joined only at the base of the neck It should be ba neck, as though the continued up to that point. This will sound the keynote for the pose of the whole body and will tend to produce that curve which I8 essential to a graceful profile. Flesh should not be allowed to ac- cumulate just below the base of the neck between the shoulders. The rem- edy is to remove the cause by keeping the chest exaggeratedly up and out at all times for a while. Be sure always that the coiffure does not interfere with the contour of this back line. Much can be done simply by spreaiing it to increase the apparent breadth of the neck if it is too like a pipestem, and so on. If the cords are very pronounced at the back, ralsing the head a trifle may modify the effect. Laces Altogether Out of Fashion— Cloth Tops and Curved Heels Are Other Features.
