Fortunes are being made by growers in California, and men. from that State have assured me that once introduced, the general culture of forage cactus will change he face of Florida. The forage cactus will change the face plant or feed grown is better for fattening hogs or cattle and it will double the milk flow. That cactus plants will thrive here is evident as they are found in abundance in their wild state over all the hill land of our own and adjoining counties. Then nry STATEMENT OF CARPENTERS IN LAKELAND| REGARDING DISAGREEMENT To the general public: As there has been so many ques- tions asked in regards to the strike between the carpenters and two con- tractors of this city, we beg to state that there is no strike on hand. We must state that the trouble is onl_\' a breach of an agreement be- tween two contractors and the car- penters. “Oun April 1, 1913, we notified the contractors that on and after July 1, 1913, we must have an eight-hour day. We agreed to take care of all work contracted on or before April 1, 1913, and all that was not finished by July 1, 1913, system. On July meeting with on the nine-hour 1, 1913, we had a the contractors, and they accepted our proposition as out- lined above. The Van Huss job, Marshall & ished by 1, 1913, penters, paid Marshall & the sun of $145.11, which squared the carpenters with the above firm. Now in regards to the City Hall job, this contract not being iinished on the above date, the carpenters lost one hour each day until the job was finished.
