The accusation seems to have been wanton malice of a thorough degenerate willing to drag innocent men down into his ruin, and inves- tigation proved it to be entirely without foundation. Governor O'Neal is an intense, positive and pugna- cious man and has made many mw_' mies, but his personal and official in- tegrity ought never to have been questioned at the instance of a moral wreck like Lacy. e Yt We have received a copy of the first issue of The Stale, the new weekly paper published in Jackson- ville by A. K. Taylor ana W. B. Mack. Mr. Taylor is the famous car- toonist whose admirable art has long been recognized in Florida and other States, and Mr. Mack, the editor of the new paper, is the well- known Bryan Mack, formerly para- grapher on the Pensecola Journal where he made a State-wide reputa- tion for his excellent work. The State is a four column, 16-page pa- per and the first issue is a success, with two of Taylor's fine cartoons, editorials with the right ring to them and a good variety of miscel- laneous reading. There is a fine field in Florida for this paper and we believe that it to fill it. The two men at the head of it have experience, brains and, back- bone, and, having made a good start. we hope they will make their enter until it has secured a prestige that will is going prise stick patronage and make it permanent. - accounts General Villa, the out- At last assaulting the fed skirts of Torreon, was merely a su burban villa.—Lakeland Telegram.
