The situation at Torr un' gives us hopes in this direction. General Villa, ¢x-holdup and cut throat, is likely to find the rupum-? of that fortified city a job that will teach him that real war is some- thing different from robbing and| murdering ranchmen and chasing panic-stricken peons. Dl Those Ulsterites putting up a bluff, are probably not for they are mad all the way through at the prospect| of living under ap Irish |1:|r1inm(\m! in which they would be in a hope- less minority; but Great Britain is too old and wise anq ripe and civil- ized to lapse into the barbarism of a bloody civil war from any cause now in sight. Such elemental char- acters as Oliver Cromwel] can’t rise from present conditions on British soil any more than the France of today could give the world .another young lieutenant of artillery to make playthings of thrones, and it would take a modern Cromwell to lead the Ulsterites in armed rebel- lion against_ the British army backed by the British government. 0 The Metropolis dep- recates mudslinging in the senator- jal contest and says that Mr. Stock- ton has religiously avoided any- thing that could be classed. That's all right abouy Mr. Stock- ton, but what about his organs? They are making out his case for Jacksonville 50 s . ————— him and determining the tone of his campaign, and by his organs he is very likely to be judged. What- ever of bitterness, whatever of mal- evolence, whatever of misrepresen- tation and innuendo and vicious criticism and disparagement have been put into the campaign thus far have been put there by the or- gans of John N. C. Stockton; and they have only to keep it up to draw the brinc eyes accompanied by voiceless prayer from his inmost heart to be delivered from such zeal without judgment on the part of his clam- orous hornblowers. Mr. Stockton is slinging no mud. Mr. Fletcher is slinging no mud. The newspapers supporting Mr. Fletcher are sling- ing no mud, and whatever ammuni- tion of that kind has been used to argue the case of the gentleman supported by the Metropolis has come ight from the guns of the St Sto«-klmrorg:nw. i i The Tampa Tribune has been in the habit of doing big things in the course of its evolution into a great modern daily newspaper, but it has now probably put the capstone on achieveq the climax, and must, per- torce, take a long rest in the way of sensational stunts the tireless vigilance of Wallace Stovall can discover some new avenue in which he may broaden out and bet- ter his big paper. The Tribune has installed pretty nearly if not quite the final thing in the way of a per- fecting press. It is a marvelous giant in intricate mechanism that makes us wonder at the inventive capacity of man, and Sunday’s issue of that paper gives us an illustra- tion of the splendid machine, ac- companied by a series of impressive write-ups and <¢qually impressive pictures of the good-looking mugs of the talented gentlemen who make The Tribune. The new press is a Goss perfecting of skyscraper ten- dencies that will print, fold and count 35,000 16-page papers in two colors, per hour, and outside of the great cities of the country thereare not many other offices where a press of such capacity has beepn installed. It is a dreadnaught among battle- ships, a beneficent monster helping to spread light through the world in the warfare of the printed word on human ignorance, and to Mr. Stovall anq his staff in all depart- ments of The Tribune tender hearty congratulations. | unless we of sorrow irom his] AR QUIGKLY ENDS' INDIGESTION Do not continue to suffer with |indigestion or dyspepsia causing heartburn, dizzineds, after-dinngeg distress, headache, biljousness. pain in the bowels, or sour and gassy Istomach.
