O ———— e T TS e e e In this issue of the Telegram we reprint from the Jackson, (Mich.), Patriot a lengthy letter written by Mr. E_ W. Barber, one of the pro- prietors of that paper, who has spent the winter at Crookeq Lake in this county. We strongly commend this letter to the perusal of all our readers, and we wish it could be cir- culateq all through the North, for it is a first-class immigration docu- ment. Mr. Barber is a close and accurate observer; he has been a regular winter visitor to this part of Florida for years; he has studied the State and its resources carefully, and he groups the facts (-omwrninz' those resources in such a clear and| comprehensive way and so free from exaggeration that his letter has far more value than the usual expres-, sion of opinion from the tourist and| is a reliable statement of facts upon which a just judgment of Florida can be founded, Rilealls bl Senator John snarp William:, of Mississippi, is known as one of the most sagacious of our public men in matters of statesmanship, but it was not suspected that he could also come out strong on theology. Recently he delivered an address in Philadelphia from which we take ‘the following which will meet the views of a great many people in this country in matters spiritual: “My theology of life is that God is as good to His children as we are to ours, and you know that, while we chide and chastise them for their sins, we always forgive them > the bureautocratic government t hat has grown up under the present gystem; it includes provisions for permitting the state to bond itself for internal improvement; it means the scientific development of the Everglades and the building of a| system of good roads. All this is| included in the call for a conven- tion and can be secured if the peo- ple of Florida now insist that those| becoming candidates for the legisla-' lature pledge themselves to see that| ed call-| proper resolutions are pas ing for a constitutional conven-!| tion."” FOR COUNTY TREASURER raccording to I'stock the | tional {in prices, as these affected all States| BVENING TELRGRAM, LAK WHAT FLORIDA OFFERS THE HOMESEEKER (Continued from page one) its climate for an increase in value 204 per cent of farm lands a between 1900 and 1910, the thirtieth census, with than one-eighth of its area under cultivation. In the per- centage of increase in value of farm property Florida ranked eighth among the States; in the value of farm buildings the seventh; in live ninth; and these propor- values are not due to the rise of ov in Florid less I announce my candidacy for the office of county treasurer, subject to the action of the Dlemocritic pri- mary. Having been bookkeeper in; that office for five years, I am thor- ing my efficiency. Being thus ¢mi-| nently qualified for the position, I respectfully solicit the support of the voters, and promise, if elected, to give the same conscentious and pains-taking care to the service of the county in the future as I have done ip the past.
