Mayhew, of Pitts burgh, Pa., is in Lakeland for the remainder of the winter and has rooms at the home of Mrs. . B. Morse. A pool room and barber shop is to be opened in the Rayvmondo block, in the room recently occupied by the American State bank. Mr. K. H. He was pleased to see the sheriff, with whom he was well acquainted, but objected considerably to going back to Illinois, declaring he does not want to leave Florida—which shows the gentleman to be pretty sensible after all. | Manager Green has already start- ed booking his shows for next sea- son ang by the looks of his list of attractions Lakeland is going to get the best on the road. Among the shows he has booked are ‘‘Stop, Thief,” with Bert Leigh and Hazel Burgess, ‘‘Believe Me, musical comedy. Special Pullman car and a lady orchestra. Geo M. The execution referred to took place about 8 o'clock last evening. The only witnesses present were 108 people from dakeland and as many more from Tampa. These, too, refuse to talk till they have seen their lawyer. In the meantime, we give for the benefit of our readers, a few facts gleaned here and there. The game was the second of a series between Tampa and lLakeland for the State championship. The first was won by Lakeland on her own court, hence this last game only evens the series. Immediately fol- lowing the game last night, Lake- land’s manager challenged Tampa's manager for the third and deciding game. Tampa refused the chal- lenge, except on condition that the game be called in the Tampa Y.
