COVOOO 0000 MISS RUTH SKIPPER QUEEN OF CARNIVAL OF PROGRESS Great interest has been aroused in the contest for the Queen of the Car- nival of Progress, and for this posi- tion friends have placed in nomina- tion Miss Ruth Skipper. Born and reared in Lakeland, Miss Skipper is one of the city’s fairest daughters and her friends are already working hard for her nomination as Queen, confident in the knowledge that the honor could not be conferred upon a lovelier subject. MR. J. EV. BRYANT MAY BE CANDIDATE FOR TREASURER — Altheugh a little early, the polit~ ical pot is beginning to simmer, and candidates for county offices are be- ing discussed. Among the possibili- ties, it is stated, Mr, J. EV. Bryant, of Socrum, may be a candidate for county treasurer. Mr. Bryant has served faithtully in the responsible but unremunera- itive position of county commissioner for the past three years, and at pres- ent he is chairmar of the board of commissioners. He has shown ca- pacity and faithfulness in this posi-" tion and his friends think him de-| serving of further recogmition. Mr. | Bryant, it is said, has the matter un- | ggles of this city. FRIENDS HAVE NOMINATED FIRST VOTE FOR KING ADN QUEEN T0 BE TAKEN . WEDNESDAY NIGHT Today Mr. G. H. Alfield and Mr. Holworthy motored to Tampa to ar- range with officials of the*A. C. L. for State-wide advertising and lower rates for Carnival of Progress. The committee of arrangements ask that all who intend putting a float into the parade of the morning or evening tell the nature of the float and enough more to enable the com- mittee of arrangements to place it appropriately. The committee now have more than enough work to do, 'so please send a written statement of the float, but if too good to write, no objection will be made to your telling about it. The committee estimates that fifty floats will take part if no more en- ter. First vote for King and Queen of the carnival will be taken Wednes- day evening. The recipients of the highest number will receive from the committee of arrangements ten com- plimentary votes extra each even- ing.
