ONCE MORE UNTO THE DUCKS, DEAR FRIENDS There have been so many conflict-| ing statements in the State press here of late on the vital question of shooting wild ducks that doubtless é many of the duck hunters are ob- fusticated on the subject and dont know “where they are at” in the matter., The State law is clear enough and definitely fixes the dates of the open season, but there is a new federal law on the subject de- signed to prevent the extermination of wild ducks by greedy hunters who slay for the mere pleasure of killing, and it is current report that this law prohibits absolutely the Killing of wild ducks at any time in any State. Such a law would of course take precedence of any State statute on the subject, for Con=ress is para- mount and what Uncle Sam savs goes in every State and county of | Am h Put there is no snch ah- solute prohihition, and for this state- ment we have the 2o00d authority of | ! The act of Coneregs pro- hibits the killing of micratory birds, that is to say wild duck, geese, ete., except under certain re~ulations pro- ‘muleated by the department of agri- culture. Pursvant to this act of Congress the secretary of agricul- ture has promulzated rules and reg- ulations which permit the killing of migratory birds in the State of Flor- ida from Nov. 20 to Feb. 16. In Alabama the open season in which fl fl ”H”H fl they may be killed is from Nov. 1 a 7” to Feh. 1.
