THE NEW MINISTER AT \ THE LUTHERAN CHURCH I, Services at Grace Lutheran church yesterday forenoon were of special intercst because Rev. W. E. Pugh, the new pastor, preached his first sermon In this city at that time and the congrezation guve close and crit- fcal attention to both preacher and sermon. Tt {8’ no exagzeration to say that this new minister fairly captured his hearers both by his per- gonality and his preaching and made an impression of the most favorable character. While matured in mind, Mr. ly hardly meore than thirty, and he has a fine pulpit presence and tsrong, well-trained voice which gave the| quality of effcctive oratory to what he had to say. He speaks with com- posure and accuracy, and clear, edu- cated thinkinz is apparent in all he says. His sermon was strong, lozi- cal and satisfying and throuzh it ran the unmistakable note of spirituality ard consecrated service, without which all preaching is worthless. The Lutherans have evidently drawn a prize in their new minister and the community is glad to welcome him and Mrs. Pugh to Lakeland. \\Y \\TFD—-(‘ommnlnnn‘rlo middle aced woman would keep house and cook fo: man and wife. MR, BUSSARD'S VIEWS ON CONMISSIN FORM Editor Evening Telegram: I no- tice that some kind friends have in- ! structed you to place my name on | ‘the ballot for the coming election {for city commissioner, in Ward No. }l for which I am truly grateful. I {am glad to know that I am deemed Iworthy of such confidence and es- teem by my fellow townsmen. I have been very busy, so that I have not given much thought about com- mission form of city government. Should the measure carry 1 am told that the expenses would be in- creased, consequently taxes would be higher than under the present sys-i tem of government. If such would | be the case, I am not in favor of the‘ change, unless the commissioners have the power to control the ex- l penditure of the city’s morey by creating ordinanees cr laws govern- | ing the city, as the present system does. Also, 1 feel that the commis- gioner's compensation should not be more than the present pay the ' conncilmen., Also, T am in favor of eliminating any member of either council or commission who adsents himeelf for mlar meetines unless providentially hin- dered from atteniding. Let him re- sion, and elect some one who can and will serve, as I know from per- gona) experience that it demands and | needs all the time, the enercy and ability of all the members —their presences are needed to assist in running the city government eco- nomically and sanitarily, I am ready and willing at all times to serve in any capacity to the best of my abil- ity for the welfare of our city.
