SECRETARY BOARD OF TRADE TELLS TOW LAKELAND IS GROWING An inquirer writes the secretary of the Board of Trade asking if there | are any vacant lots to be had in the old business section of Lakeland as he remembers it five years ago, to which the secretary has replied in the negative, giving the further in- formation that since that time the business has impinged on Flor and Kentucky avenues south of Main street and on Main street east of Kentucky avenue. The prev- ious quiet corner opposite the Tre- mont hotel on Main street is now the scene of considerable activity, one handsome building for our local newspapers being at present in course of erection and a contract in course of preparation for another section ! handsome business house on the same block, while the old Tremont has i been compelled to vacate its estab. i lished site and give way to the on | ward march of progress. Reaching on day by day towards i the mark of 15,000 in 1915, Lake- land’s business center cammet :@w held within the prescribed limits of two or three city blocks, and all this is being done by our own people, who are reaping the rich harvest of increased values on their own hold- ings. When we think of our mnorth- ern friends playing with their three to five per cent investments, we are surprised that they have not yet found us out down here, where we are daily making one hundred per cent and more per annum on business in- vestments which are not yet able to meet the growing demands. From the inquiry above referred to, it may be they are beginning to get wise. MORE THAN 100,000 AUTOMOBILES IN FLORIDA Florida certainly has some auto. mobiles, and the number is increas- ing very rapidly, much more so than a year or two ago. An Ocala man received his license number for his car, dated Aug. 23, and it was 105.- 440, showing that many licensed cars in the State. Less than three years ago the number was under three thousand, but all the cars in the State were not licensed then, as the law was not as strictly enforced as now. Even now there are probably three thousand unlicensed cars, those in the hands of agents and pri- vate owners who have not been in a hurry to get a license from Tallahas- see. On2 is appalled at the sum of money represented by the value of the cars already licensed, when st ! a valuation of $1,000 each, which is under the average, the sum would reach $105,440,000. Of these, if we are correctly informed, Marion county has over 300 cars.—Ocala Ster. REAL ECTATE TRANSFERS (Reported Daily by Security Ab stract and Title Co . Bartow v September 2, 1913, C. M.
