Miss Gladys Wilson Entertains K. K. K's The K. K. K'’s were delighttully entertained last Thursday afternoon by Miss Gladys Wilson at her beau- tiful homo on South Kentucky ave- nue. 14 the parlor and living room tables had been arranged for run-« ning which proved to be a very ex- citing game. Later in the after- noon delicious refreshments were served. : The K. K. K.’s present were Misses Mary Jackson, Hazel Ormsby, Helen Conibear, Mabel Wadkins, Genevieve Morrow, Annie C. Mayes and Gladys Wilson. L I ] . Dramiatic Club Holds Business Meeting The Dramatic Club held a busi- ness session at the Board of Trade rooms Aug: 20. After President Steitz called the meeting to order the minutes were read and approved. Several thingy came before the house, the most important being as follows: It was moved and. seconded that $50 be given to the Board of Trade, subject to a time limit. That the $75 voted some time ago to the Woman's Club for library be depos- ited with $25 of club money in a saving fund and at the first meet- ing of the Woman’s Club should be brought to their notlce in connec- tion with a time limt (the $75 vot- ed to them), Several committees were ap- pointed, one to revise the old con- stitution, one to select a new play, one on amucemont. C., has accepted the call of Grace Evangelical Lutheran church in Lakeland to become its pastor. This news was received this week by the council. Rev. Pugh is a graduate of Newberry college, S. C., and of the Southern Lutheran theological seminary at, Columbia 8. C. He has been & successful pastor 1:. Florence for several years, having built up an active congregation there. He is 5 young man and the congregation here is fortunate in securing him to be their pastor. He will arrive here with his family on or about the first of October. He has applied for the place as superintend- ent of city schools to succeed Dr. L. H. Bceler, and comes with high recommendations. He greatly im. pressed the members of the board but they have taken no action on the select'on of a new superintend- ent ‘ere. “+ The board had chesen Prof; Jones, also & Kentuckian, who is now ‘in his release from the school at Lake- land. He said he could not give up his place there, honorably, and would not quit any other way. He was regarded s a fine man for the place as he is a native of the South and has taught in Florida for sev- eral years. Prof. Asbury has been living in Florida for three years and has| taught 'at Cocoanut Grove, near Mi- ami. He came to Florida on ac- count of his wife's health and took a Dlace in the schools at Cocoanut Grove, where he located, He sald he found that hi would have to live in Florida, on account of his wife's health, and therefore applied for the vacancy here as superintendent. He has a state certificate and is qualified to act as superintendent here. He had been teaching in southern Illinois for several years prior to coming to Florida but is a native of Kentucky. ‘The board 18 considering iim, with several other applicants, and likely will selcet a superntendent chortly.—St. Peters- burg Independent.
