St. Pete talks about “Peerless Pinellas” and Fort Myers Rells of “Leading Lee,” but what's the matter with “Paramount Polk?” Can you top that?” ————— Persistent rheumatism in his limbs has compelled Congressman L’Engle to leave Washington and he is now at Hampton Springs, Taylor county, this State, taking the waters there with a view to his recovery. Claude ig still a spicy condiment in Florida pelitics, although hif election to Con- gress and brief experiefice in Wagh- iugton have taken much of the acrid quality out of his writings and made him less cockshure in his opinions, | and political friends and foes alike wish him an early and complete res- toration to health. —_—— There are still a few citizens of| Flo™4 of more or less prominence, who haven't been mentioned by the: industrious press scriveners who have that department of State politics in charge, as candidates for the United States Senate in opposition to Sen- ator Fletcher, Trot ‘em out; give us the whole list; let none escape; no entrance fee required; get i n the game. In 1894 he was elected one of the judges of the fif- teenth judicial distiict of Iowa, and was relected four times thereafter. On June 6, 1911, he was elected to the sixty-second Congress, and re- signed his position 2s judge. He was re-elected to the Sixty-third Con- gress, receiving more than double his former majority - LVEN CHILDREN ENTHUSE OVER LAKELAND'S GROWTH A 12 year old boy came into the Telegram office yesterday and said, “Well, I see in the Telegram that the A. C. L. is going to put up a big fing freight station, and there’ll be automatic gates at Florida and Kentucky avenues, Gee! I love to watch Lakeland grow, don’t you?” and we assured the young man that vwe do. When the kids enthuse over the growth of 8 town, those who are and was not needed to inform Mr. Bryan of the public sentiment of the @untry on the matter at issue. He has beeneffectively rebuked without official action from any source. I fé should persist In his lecture scheme, it will probably be at the price of his political future in the Bemocratic party. U S——— Knowing how people are given to lying during a sate of war tnd charging monstrous cruelties on the enemy which are either purely mythi- cal or grossly exaggerated, we give King Ferdinand, of Bulgaria, fthe benefit of the doubt and until better evidence to the contrary is produced, @accept his denial andacquit his troops of the wholesale massacres of Greek and Servian noncombatants charged against them. And while we are about it, we might as well say that we discount all the old stories of Turkish cruelties prior to and dur- irg the Balkan war fifty per cent. and then some. Telling lies on our ercmlies has been a povafar form of turpitude ever since the Father of Lies taught his first class in prevari- cation along about year one B. C. Through the persistent efforts of the Woman's Civic League of Live Oak that city is to get a park of the regulation character. INMardly any- more helpful to it in the matter of drawing the favorable attention of visitors, to say nothing of the com- fort it would furnish to the citizens. Lakeland's park is a priceless asset, a continuous source of pleasure and pi~ advertisement which has drawn the favorable attention of thous- ands and will continue to do so trrcuch all the future. The modern city, large or small, without one or more parks, is as conspicuous in critical eyes for what it has not as for what it has. away must know the place is “going some,” for boys don't generally take note of such things.
