This information was today igven by Senator Perkins of California to Representative Kettner of Califor- nia, and D. C. Collier, of San Diego, who asked Perkins to make a fight in the Senate to get the rates raised. Perkins told Kettner and Collier it will be probably impossible to per- suade enough senators to agree to raise the rates, especially as the Florida Senators have -already an- nounced they will support the Un- derwood bill as it came:in the Sen- ate. The senator sarcastically asked why the California Democratic congress- man did not make an effort in the House Democratic caucus to raise the rates before the bill went to the House. He declared that was the place to have made the fight to pra. serve the California and Florida fruit industry. He said, however, he would do what he could in the Sen- ate.
